Marriage License-

Is it an all day process? I live in Queens and FH lives in Brooklyn. Someone told us not to go to the city clerks office in Queens because it was pure madness. Where did you go and how long did it take?

Yeah it's only a few minutes to get done

I went to the one in Queens. It's not a good experience - you stand on line next to criminals but once you are in the building, you have to fill out a form (black ink only! yes, they made one couple do it over if b/c it was in blue ink!), hand in your $35 money order and they enter you into a computer.
They search your name to make sure you weren't married and then give you a print out of your license. You must check it over carefully and then you can go.

It took less than 1-hour, but we went 1st thing in the morning. We got there around 8:30 a.m.

I just went and got mine, yeah!! It took about 15min. We went in Nassau. They were very helpful and friendly. I know though that Queens is a disaster and the people are very nasty! Good Luck.

You have to get your license within 60-days of the ceremony I thought - why did you get yours so early?

it was actually people answering summons but they were getting padded down and we all had to go through metal detectors. But the guards were really great to us, I think they saw the look of sheer terror in my face and felt bad.

And as for the people in the marriage license office, they were nasty, just like the DMV people are nasty - typical government employees.
