Re: marriage license

You have to go to the town hall for whichever town you live in.

We haven't gotten ours yet, but we are planning to bring our drivers license, birth certificate, social security card just to be on the safe side

Any place in NY. I think it is a popular misconception that you only have to go to the town where you are getting married (or even the county). We got married at Giorgio's and we got ours in Manhattan.

Oh. It is good for 60 days, but you have to get it more than 2 days before.

That's great news! So much easier to go where you live than where you are getting married sometimes. I was wondering the same thing. Thanks.

Yup, you can get it anywhere in NY. We got ours in Manhattan and we got married in the North Fork. But check with wherever you're getting it from regarding fees and what form it has to be. In Manhattan you have to bring a money order.

i live in bklyn and went to LI for my certificate.

make sure you call your hall to verify what you should bring and how much. cuz some places only accept money orders, checks, or only cash. so make sure you call and not waste your time. the place i went to by americana manhasset accepts one ID - driver's lic and $40 (yr 2004) cash only. the best part was being teh first ones there and we got there around noon. phew!
