Re: marriage license?

you need to have your marriage licence no more than 60 days before, you need to bring your licence and your birth cert. (my husband didnt have his BC so he used work ID and they were ok with it.) if you have been divorced then you need that paperwork. I went to the hempstead office at 9am and we were in and out in 15 minutes... i would reccomend that office (plus you get a great bag of free stuff) hope this helps you..

Re: marriage license?

You can go to any town hall. I went to the one in Patchogue and I didn't need a money order, plus they were open until 7 on Mondays. Figure out the one you want to go to and look them up on the internet for hours and info. All we needed was licenses and raised seal birth certificates.

Re: marriage license?

We went to islip town hall and they didn't ask for birth certificate. We just showed drivers ID.
They filled out the form asking us the questions. No porblems and we actualy had a nice experience!

Re: marriage license?

I am going to the Islip Town Clerk. I called to see what we needed and they said just a Photo ID (Drivers License, Passport...)and $25 cash, chech or MO.
I would say the best bet is to decide where you are going and then call.

Re: marriage license?

In Smithtown, we needed either our Social Security card or something with our SS # on it (they took my medical insurance card). We also needed the photo ID.

Re: marriage license?

I would double check with the specific town hall you are planning to go to. Some require birth certificate, some dont. Some take money orders only, others will accept cash or a check. I think the only thing that is the same at all of them is that you have to go together with your fiance and that it must be within 60 days, with a 24 hour waiting period before its valid. Definitely check with your own town hall (by the way, you can go to any within new york!)

Good luck!

Re: marriage license?

you can go to any town hall in NYS (but NYC is more expensive)

I went to Hempstead and it was so easy...they have a sign that says they were rated the best town clerks office in NYS

we just needed a photo id...(we used passports)
and you just have to know your SS#, parents country of birth, YOUR place of birth (don't laugh...there are 3 st john's hospitals in queens and DH didn't know which one)

Re: marriage license?

Does it matter if you go to one in Queens, or one in Long Island? DOes it go by where you live, where your getting married, or neither?

Re: marriage license?

I went today to get mine! I live in Queens and went to the one in Queens but I believe you can go to anyone in New York State. You have to get the license for the state you are getting married in.

All I needed was id (passport, driver's license or non-driver's id) and a money order for $30. (I think if you were previously married you may need to bring some of the divorce paperwork).

When I got there I had to fill out a simple application- - just names, addresses, previous marriage info, and parents names (mom's maiden name) and country of birth.

Outside of NYC, the fee is only $25. In NYC, they would only accept money orders. They were making a big deal over the payment.

I got there when it first opened on it took about 45 minutes. There was only one person processing the applications.

The license is only valid for 60 days and not good for 24 hours after applying.

Re: marriage license?

All of this can be so confusing. I was told by a few that Manhasset doesn't issue them, but I called and they do!

And what's with all the inconsistencies? Some places you need a birth certificate and a certified check, and others don't. You would think they'd all have to follow the same guidelines!

FH and I are going to the Manhasset one with passports, SS cards and driver's licenses and a personal check - hopefully that will be enough!
