do you go to the town hall in the town you reside or the town hall your getting married in?

We live upstate but getting married on LI. Our preist saidyou just have to go to a town clerk in NY.

I am not sure exactly how it works-I know you dont have to go to the town hall where you are getting married-i think youcan go to anyone in New York State, not positive tho
