Marriage License

So we finally got our marriage license in the mail and I open it up and.......................
my maiden name is wrong AND our wedding date is wrong, ***?!?!

I call the town hall and the lady has the nerve to tell me that I spelled my own name wrong. I was like, excuse me but I think I know how to spell my name, so then she was acting like I was making it inconvienent for her to send me a correction form. Some people are just rediculous!!

Re: Marriage License

I am a bit confused about this whole process. When you go to town hall before your wedding do you take any documents with you when you leave or do they send you a certificate? And then after your wedding day does the documentation change or is it all just one document that goes into effect as of your wedding date. Please clarify for me....also what town hall did you go to? I can't believe they did that!!!!!!!!

You get the marriage license up to 60 days before the wedding. You get it at city hall and leave with it that day. Then on the wedding day you have the officiant and a witness sign it and then the officiant is supposed to send it in. Then you get the marriage certficate in the mail. I'm actually wondering how long it takes to get the certificate, cuz its been over two weeks since our wedding.

DIdn't you go over it on the screen and approve it? That's what we had to do, we filled out the form and then as she typed the info into the computer we were shown the screen line by line so that everything was approved by us, this way there were no mistakes and if there were, it's our fault.

No, it's not too late. You have time, just as long as you get it before the day before your wedding.

For us - we were not there when it was typed in - it was all handwritten on the form & that was it.

You should have a copy of what you wrote out (they made copies for us at the one we went to) - on your copy - is it right?

hmmm, interesting. See, you learn something new every day. I guess I just assumed since it was a legal/govt document that they were all processed the same way.

maybe they only use the computer in the city then?

Maybe - i'm not sure. I know she told us that if we made a mistake, we had to start over, because they didn't allow white out! That's about it! We went to Massapequa for it!
