How do I go about obtaining one? Where do I need to go? Do I need to go in teh town that I live in? Is there more than one office?

we got ours from the town that we live in, we brought our birth cert. it was super easy, (make sure you have all of your documentation)

We live in the town of Brookhaven, so we went to the Brookhaven Town Clerk with the completed form, $40, our birth certificates, licenses, and were done within 15 minutes.
Here is a link that will tell you all you need to know(for the town of Brookhaven). I am assuming all others are similar.
Does it need to be done in the county you are getting married in?
No, it doesn't have to be in the same county as you are getting married in - I believe a license issued anywhere in NY is good for getting married anywhere in NY

i live in the town of huntington and we went to town hall in huntington (with an appointment) because they have extended hours on friday nights for residents of the town
