Has anyone been able to go on FH's insurance after obtaining their marriage license? Someone mentioned to me that once you get this, you're legally married and may be able to get on FH's insurance depending on the company. Has anyone done this, or did I receive the wrong information?
Thanks!

Re: Marriage License and Insurance
I WAS TOLD BY MY OFFICIANT THAT THE MARRIAGE LICENSE IS BASIALLY A PERMIT AND DOES NOT BECOME BINDING UNTIL AN OFFICIAL SIGNS IT (OFFICIANT, PRIEST, JP...)

You are not legally married just b/c you are issued a marriage license. An officiant has to marry you before you're considered legally married. Once you are issued a marriage certificate, you can go onto your husband's insurance policy. Marriage is considered a life-changing event that entitles you to be covered under your spouse's policy. Most companies give you a 30 day window after the wedding to enroll. Otherwise, you may have to wait until the next open enrollment period.

I am on my FH's insurance, we had to prove we lived together for at least six months and prove that we were financially interdependent - we own a home together.

We did it. DH called his insurance company and just added me to his policy, this was before we received our license I'm almost positive......

This is true only if your FI's company/policy has a domestic partner allowance. If not, you can only get coverage after you get married. My firm does not provide coverage for domestic partners.
Yes, you're right, and he does. But it's worth checking into I guess for anyone that needs coverage I guess.
