marriage license... can you get your birth certificate anywhere??
I know you need your drivers license & your birth certificate right? Anything else? Can you use your passport instead of birth certificate?
Can you get your birth certificate from anywhere or do you have to go to THE hospital you were born in?

Re: marriage license... what do you need for it?
We went to hempstead and all we needed was drivers license and another form of id. Even a medical card worked. We were in and out in 15 minutes

Do you have to go to the town hall where you live?
I can't find my birth certificate anywhere! When we moved, i think i packed it in a box that is currently in our storage unit! It's a good thing i'm super organized and i labeled all the boxes!

It really depends where you go-- I would call and ask... We went this week, to the one in Manhattan and just used our passports... FYI after all the talk of birth certificates, the one in Manhattan has signs that explicitly say they don't accept birth certificates for marraige licenses (although they do for other things).
Since it is a state license one would think there would be some standardization here!!!
Good luck

you have to go to or contact and figure it out the town hall or whatever that handles the 'vital records' (read: birth/death certificates/marriage licenses) where you were born. they will be able to get you a copy.
example: if i want a new one, i must contact the county hall where i was born because they handle those for where i was born...not the hospital...
the hospital only gives you a keepsake certificate. it is not binding in any way. besides, hospitals can close down...the govt stays.

You can get an official copy of your birth certificate from the town clerk where you were born. I needed it for our passports because I put my original in such a safe place I can't freakin' find it!!! But it was like $10 and took 10 minutes!
If you were not born local, call that town clerk (google it for the number) and ask if you can obtain it by mail.
The state has records too but it's quicker, cheaper and easier through the town.
Good Luck!
And... we are town of Islip and we did need our birth certificates along with a driver's license or passport. The clerks office is right across the street from Adrienne's.

I had to get a copy of my birth certificate (lost my other one) and we needed it to get our marriage license (Islip). Because I was born in NJ, I needed to go to the county I was born in and request the copy.
