Marriage License expiration question...

Marriage License expiration question...

Ok, dumb question...I've never been married before so I don't know how this works.

Your license is good for 60 days right? So then what happens? What do you need after the 60 days? Do you actually sign something like a marriage certificate at the wedding ceremony?

It has dates printed on it for when it's good (ie 3/27-5/27) and it can only be used within that window. You sign it at the wedding along with your officiant and 2 witnesses and your officiant sends it in. A few weeks later your marriage cert. gets sent to your house.

60 days it is good for. I don't know what happens if you don't get married in those 60 days

You get your state license 2-4 weeks after your wedding

Re: Marriage License expiration question...

We went for our marriage license and brought the unsigned copy to our rehearsal. My DH and I signed off at the rehearsal along with our BM & MOH. The day we were married the priest signed off on it and mailed it to Albany when we returned from our honeymoon 2 weeks later our marriage lisence was in the mail.

ETA: Not sure if I answered your question above but if your asking what happens after the 60 days and your still not married at that point the marriage license is no longer valid. In New York you would have to be married within 60 days from the time you obtain a marriage license otherwise you would not be legally married.
