WHAT exactly do you need? I have found conflicting information everywhere.... birthcertificate, SS card, drivers license...some say all, some say one form of ID and SS card, some say you NEED your birth certificate. Planning on bringing it all but FI just had to order his from Indiana since we spent the morning looking for it but can't find it! We want to go when we are home in NY next week. THANKS!

We went in Manhattan and all we needed were our drivers licenses. We're both NYS residents.

In NY, you do need your birth certifcate, technically, but some town c clerk
s offices over look it. I'mnot sure abotu Islip,
however, I when I was getting mine, someone else was there & had to go get her birth certifcate & come back, they wouldnt' accept a driver's license.

Ok I am about to cry right now....this is our LAST trip to NY (friday through monday) before the wedding....guess we'll have to wait til a few days before when we come back. Islip says you need your birth certificate and either your drivers license OR passport. We got an expedited birth certificate for FI but earliest it will ship out is Monday. I hate cutting things sooo close.

We went to Islip Town Hall. It was very easy--we used birth cert. and drivers license (DH didn't have a passport). You will need your birth cert. There was no wait and they were very nice.

On Long Island you need your birth certificate and photo ID and I think in the city, you just need photo ID. And $40 in cash or money order (for LI).

What if you don't have your birth certificate? Will a passport do? I wasn't born in this country - how can I get a duplicate birth certificate? Thanks!

We went to Queens on Friday and all we needed was our passports. And the money order. Make sure the ID is not expired,a few couples had to go renew their licenses because they wouldn't take it expired (common sense, but still).

Call the County Clerk's office where you plan to go, also ask about their hours which seem to vary.

We both need either a birth certificate or a baptismal records and a passport or driver's license in Manhasset. It does seem to vary across the state though, and I know NJ is a whole different story, so definitely check.

I have my birth certificate but my FI doesn't have his original. He has a copy of it tho, is that ok? He can't get a new one since the hospital where he was born is no longer there. Help!!!!

I called the Clerk's office and they said that a driver's license and a valid passport will be sufficient

We got ours in Queens, NYC and all we needed was our passports. No birth certificate or social security cards accepted.

It seems that LI (since it's NYS) has different requirements than NYC, the following are in order:

NYC ($35 money order):
http://nycmarriagebureau.com/about/faq.html

A person is required to establish proof of identity and age (persons who are or appear to be under the age of eighteen only) by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following identity related documents:

1. Valid driver's license (from the United States or any of its territories)
2. Valid non-driver's identification card issued by the department of motor vehicles (from the United States or any of its territories)
3. Valid learner's permit from New York State only
4. Passport
5. Active military identification card
6. Valid United States alien registration card
7. U.S. certificate of naturalization ( issued within the past ten years)
8. Employment authorization card issued by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs of the Department of Homeland Security

There is no residence or citizenship status requirement.

NYS (LI - $40 money order):
Proof of Age and Identity
A person is required to establish proof of age and identity by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following age related documents:

Birth Certificate
Baptismal record
Naturalization record
Census record
And one of the following identity related documents:

Driver's license
Passport
Employment picture ID
Immigration record
