Re: marriage license in queens
i went to kew gardens too...we filled out the application online first and just verified the information when we got there only too about 20 minutes
Go to 'next page' and select 'marriage license' and fill it out online. Then just show up at the courthouse with the confirmation number they give you after you complete it. (This is just for people getting the marriage license in NYC, not Long Island).
We went to Kew Gardens, it's the building across from the criminal court building (on the same side of Queens Blvd.) and the entrance is in the back on the side facing the side of the criminal court. It closes at 4 on the weekdays. It takes a lot less time if you fill it out online ahead of time.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but even if you fill out the forms, you still have to wait on line with those that didn't... unless it changed since February.
Go earlier. We went at 1ish and stood in the snow while it was snowing because they only allowed a certain amount in at a time.

Yeah, this is true. BUT, if you fill it out online it basically cuts your time in half... otherwise you have to sit there and wait for the person behind the glass to manually enter all of your information into the computer. So it speeds it up considerably - and, sometimes they pull people off the line that did the form online to go over to the cashier if it's toward the end of the day and/or the cashier doesn't have people waiting. So it's definitely more convenient!
We went at 3:45, were there until 4:10 (they close at 4 but they stopped letting people in about 3:50).

Re: marriage license in queens
The worst part is actually waiting to get in. We waited about 20 minutes outside online in Kew Gardens. Once we were inside ( we filled out the online application) we were only there 15 minutes.
