I'm sure we'll go to Smithtown, but haven't even bothered to look at their hours yet.

Stupid, just checked, and it appears different towns have different requirements. Smithtown requires your birth certificate, a drivers license, AND social security card (or document which has it on it), whereas Huntington doesn't need any SS documents. One won't take checks, one will. Huntington does extended Friday hours, but only if you're a resident. Both, or at least one?

Stupid.

I got our license in Huntington----on a Friday evening----their hours are great and the people there are very helpful.

I thinks it's crazy that they don't require SS documents. When we were there, the guy in front of us had 2 different licenses with 2 different names and his birth certificate had a different name. They just asked him to write his SS# (without any documentation of it) and he said, 'Which one? My first one, second one or my new one?'

Crazy, right?
