I am planning on getting it next Friday. Do we need our original birth certificates? And a $$ order from the post office for (i think) $30?
And where do we go? City Hall? I'm lost!

We both took our birth certificates and our licenses just in case. We had a money for $30 and we went to City Hall in NYC.. but you can go to Queens as well.

I heard the wait in Queens is very long. So we just went to LI- Hempstead. I t took us about 10-15 minutes total. We just had to show our photo ID's. i believe that we showed our drivers license and that's it.

We went in Hempstead too, paid in cash (note- the cost has gone up to $40, just in case you plan on paying for it w. a money order). There was no line, we were out in 20 minutes. You need two forms of ID, we used passports and our licences.

anyone go to the NYC one (Manhattan)? Just wondering because i may have to go at 1pm and I don't want us to wait for 3 hours and then they close at 4!

I went to NYC one- we got there as SOON as it opened (we were there at 8.15) and we were out of there in 20 minutes :) I think they were more concerned w. the money order than our IDs.... I don't remember which ID they took.

I went in NYC last week. It was very quick and easy. Do a search - there was this same post last week. And you don't need your birth certificate. Your license is enough. And you need a $30 money order made payable to the city clerk of ny.

I also got my license in Manhattan and we spent no more than 20 minutes there, but we were there at 9 am. We used our passports, so I can't answer your questions about using a birth certificate. You do need to bring a postal money order for $30. But I need to warn you about bringing a black pen. They will not give you a pen. Bring 2 just in case! Good luck!

I would not recommend the Queens one..After waiting on a LONG A$$ line..they said the computers were DOWN!!! and if we wanted to we could wait...but they couldnt guarentee that they would come up... We ended up going to the BRONX>>which was not that bad

The one in the city is usually very quick. It's in the munispial building. Here are the requirements from NY state's web site:

We went to the Queens office to get our license yesterday (before the blackout) -- it was a NIGHTMARE!!!! They made us wait OUTSIDE in the heat -- the girl in front of me PASSED OUT The court officers acted like it was no big deal (she was okay -- they got her water, etc. and she got the license)
They also made us stand in line next to the criminals! Yep, I'm not kidding!
The whole thing took three hours!!!
I asked DH if we could go to LI to get it, and the dope said no!!!! Wish I would've read this thread!
