Re: Marriage License Procedure
Yes, you get it right there, the same day. But apparently every town hall is different as far as ID requirements and $$$ amount and form, so check with the one you plan on going to before you go.
If you're going in the city, you just need your drivers license and it's a $35 money order only.

yikes - i hope not! i updated my address with DMV when FM and I moved. I've written the new address on the back of my license a million times and it always rubs off I hope we wont need to go and get new ID's now.

It doesn't matter what the address is on your driver's license. I used mine with our old apartment number and wrote down our new house address. No problems at all.
For Town of Hempstead we brought our licenses and birth certificates and $40. It was super easy and everyone was really nice.

which town hall do you have to go to, the town you live in or the town you're getting married in?

Re: Marriage License Procedure
Yes you need at least two forms of ID (passport , drivers license, etc.) and your birth certificate. I would call ahead and just also ask how much because it varies by town hall (the city its money order only but in most town halls they will take cash).
DH and I applied in Hempstead and it took us no more than 10 minutes (on Valentines Day no less!) and we just needed our birth certificates, drivers licenses, and passports and also $40 cash. You get the license the same day but is not valid until the DAY AFTER you get it.. keep that in mind.

it doesn't matter; it's a state issued license. fh just picked up the info today when he was at court. Two forms of ID (to be safe), $40.... any location; we're probably going to Kew Gardens. And you can't go within 24 hrs of the wedding

You can get your marriage license anywhere in the entire state of NY. Does not matter at all. It just has to be in the state.

Make sure Kew Gardens is $40. City Hall (in the city) was a $35 money order ONLY. Don't know if that applies to all 5 boroughs or just manhattan.
ETA: Also, we only needed one form of ID, as long as it was state/govt issued., i.e. just drivers license was fine.
