I did a search before I posted this, but where can FH and I go for our marriage license? I would like to go to the Town of Hempstead but I can't find any info as to what documents we will need and where the office is located. Can any of you girls help?
Let me know if you need addresses. I think I have them in the information the Church gave us.

Re: Marriage License Question
I copied the information from the Town of Hempstead web site. I hope this helps.
The Town Clerk is responsible for issuing a New York State Marriage License to qualified applicants as well as recording the marriage with the New York State Department of Health. The marriage record is on file in this office and in Albany.
Licenses to marry in New York State may be obtained from the Town Clerk's office regardless of the residence of either of the parties. Once the license is issued and the 24-hour waiting period has passed, the ceremony may be performed anywhere in the state. The requirements for the issuance of marriage licenses in the Town of Hempstead are mandated by the provisions of the New York State Domestic Relations Laws.
The marriage section of the Hempstead Town Clerk's office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Applicants should arrive prior to 4:15 p.m. Both applicants must appear in person. Two forms of ID are required (one must be valid photo ID). Marriage license applicants whose previous marriage(s) ended in divorce, annulment or death of spouse, must provide proof of dissolution of all previous marriage(s) by presenting a certified copy of Divorce or Annulment or certified copy of Death Certificate for each previous marriage.
Effective August 1, 2003 the New York State Department of Health has increased the marriage license fee to $40.00, which includes the cost of the marriage certificate. As an agent of the state, the Hempstead Town Clerk's office is required to charge the increased fee. A blood test is not required. Payment may be made in cash or by local check or money order made payable to Hempstead Town Clerk.

Re: Marriage License Question
It doesn't say though what two forms of identification are required. Also, where can I get a copy of my birth certificate with a raised seal????

Re: Marriage License Question
I pulled out the information sheet that the church gave us and it has a lot of information on it.
Yes- 2 forms of ID are required. One must be a photo.--- Current US driver's license, naturalization papers, non-driver's license from the DMV, Current military ID.
I think that you can get a duplicate birth certificate with a raised seal from the municipality you were born in (i.e. Town of Babylon.) Find out which hospital you were born in and call the Town hall it is located in.

Re: Marriage License Question
The Town of Hempstead doesn't require a birth certificate, just 2 forms of ID. I think I gave them my license and my work photo id. I don't think they both have to be picture ID though. I'm pretty sure Fh gave them a license and an insurance id card. FH and I lost our birth certificates so we actually both got new ones the same day as we got our marriage license. You have to go to the town hall of the town you were born in. I was born in the Town of Hempstead so I got mine at the Hemp. town hall, but FH was born at Mercy Hosp. so he had to go to Rockville Center town hall to get his. I got mine the same day and FH's was mailed and we got it the next day.

Re: Marriage License Question
we're looking into that too. FH hasn't received his birth cert yet... so we don't know what else he can use for ID.
you can also get birth cert online through office of vital records. but it takes awhile.

Re: Marriage License Question
What if you are getting married in NYC? DOes it need to be a state license or specifically a county license?
