marriage license question

hey ladies,

On Tuesday we are going to get out marriage license and I just wanted to make sure that I go in there with everything that I am going to need....so any advise? Who should the money order be written out to?

do you have to pay with a money order? They will accept cash.
Just make sure you both have you original birth cert. with the raised seal

Do you have to take a witness with you?

No, you don't need a witness with you - if you need one, they will provide one for you - at least in the Town of Hempstead they do.

someone had told me that they only take money orders......and can you only bring your birth certificate or can you bring something else with you instead.....I think that FH dont know where his is....

Here are the requirements to get a marriage license in NY state.

You don't need a witness, but you and he must both be present. You each need two forms ID as outlined in the link above. If either of you were married before, you need to bring proof of dissolution of the previous marriages. And, of course, your $40.

If your birth certificate is lost, get another copy from VitalChek.

What I have read is that if your getting your license in NYC its 35 dollars and you must have it in the form of a money order only......but in long island you pay 40 dollars and you can pay it in cash....and you must have your birth certificate....where as i think in nyc you can bring 2 different forms of identification and i dont think that you have to bring you birth certificate if you didnt have it or cant find it.......

You have to have a $35.00 money order, IDs (driver license is fine), and if you or he have been previously married, a divorce decree. I wouldn't make the money order out until you get there. That is what I did.
