marriage license question.... (married ladies)- updated
how long did it take for yours to come after your wedding? we were told 2 weeks max... its going on three... i don't even know who to contact about this.
ETA:
so I emailed my church and got this reply:
Good Morning Megan,
Thank you for your lovely words – it is always a pleasure to make people happy. I will pass along your e-mail to Fr. Tom.
Meanwhile yes, you should have already received the marriage license. Mary will re-send you what we have. Could you e-mail me your current address?
Thank you & God bless,
Pat
um... so i'm now even MORE confused.. I mean, where did they send it the first time? and doesn't it get sent to someone else who then processes it and sends it to me? this whole thing confuses me!

Re: marriage license question.... (married ladies)
i think ours took about 2-3 weeks .... if you don't receive it by the 3 week mark, you should contact your officiant and make sure he sent it out (and on time).

2 weeks. I'd call the officiant first and find out when it was mailed.

Re: marriage license question.... (married ladies)
we were married on saturday and rec'd the mail on the following friday ... i think it depends on how busy the clerk's office is - ours was processed through richmond county (staten island) which i imagine is quicker than brooklyn or new york ...

Yeah there's no way it should've been sent to the church. The church signs the license and sends it in and you get the certificate in the mail at your home address. I have no idea what they're talking about!

my rabbi sent us a copy of his original submission for our records, so maybe that's what your church means?

Re: marriage license question.... (married ladies)- updated
Omg I feel your pain b/c unfortunately I had an awful marriage certificate experience!!! We got married in Brooklyn and got our license in Brooklyn as well. When we got back from the HM I basically expected to have our marriage certificate in the mail but we didn't get it yet. So I was like ok, let me wait until the end of the week and not go crazy. I waited and still nothing (at this point it was over 2 weeks from when we got married). So then I called the deacon b/c regardless of when we got married, it would depend on when he sent it to the clerks office. He told me he sent it the Tuesday after we got married and from his experience...it can take 6-8 weeks for it to come in!!! I was like WHAT?!?! I was getting nervous because I was going on a trip in a few months and booked it in my married name thinking I would have changed my name by then!!!
It just so happens that the clerks office is by my job, so about a week later I stopped by there to see if they at least got it. I find out that they NEVER received it!!! Even if for some reason it wasn't processed yet, they would have had it on file that they received it. She even looked through files of marriage licenses where they may have been an error to halt the processing and it wasnt in there.
Sooooooo...I'm like ok what do I do? He said he mailed it 3 weeks ago so you should've gotten it by now. I had a copy of the license with all the signatures can I just give that to prove we were married. NOPE!!!! I needed a letter from the deacon stating when and where we got married, I had to pay a $25 fee to get a DUPLICATE marriage license and have EVERYONE (deacon, me, DH and witnesses) sign it and go back there! I couldnt believe I had to pay a fee when Im not even the one who lost it!! But at that point I was desperate to get this whole ordeal over with. So we didnt even get our actual certificate until about 2 months after we were married!!! Who knows what happened to the original license!!
Sorry for the long post!!! I def dont want to freak you out but I do want to let you know that you need to be on top of both the church and the clerks office to see what is going on. I didnt trust to mail the duplicate license back to the clerks office so I just went there in person. I REALLY hope you (or anyone) never has to go through this!!!
