You can't get a marriage license more than 60 days before your wedding and not less than 24 hours. I don't know if you get the marriage license the same day or if it comes in the mail. You don't have to make an appointment.

Hey Jess!!

You can go to the town clerk and you have to bring your birth certificates and drivers liscense. Then they print up a copy of the application right there, and when you get married you give it to the officiant. They fill it out and send it off to the town to get processed, and you should have it back when you get back from your honeymoon.

You can go to get the paperwork filled out no more than 60 days before your wedding, and I believe it has to be 24 hours before your wedding as well.

The passport agency has your orginal birth certificate?? Wouldn't a copy of the certificate been enough?

Are you sure that you will be getting your original birth certificate back from the passport agency ?
If you were born on Long Island, you should be able to get it from the town hall. Check on line.

In NYC, you can get a copy from the bureau of vital statistics.

That is all partly correct except the 24 hour part. The license isn't valid until 24 hours after you get it. There is a waiting period. In other words you cannot get married within 24 hours of recieving the license. You can go on the Nassau County Government website and they have a link for it.

They send you back your birth cert with your passport. How long it takes to get a marriage license will depend on how busy it is in town hall. Out here (Riverhead), there's never anyone there. I imagine that as you move westward, the lines get longer.

I need a copy of my liscense for my honeymoon ( i guess to prove that we are honeymooners and should get the rates). Do you know how I should go about doing that? Did anyone else have to do this?

Also is it true that you need a money order?

YOu can get an original of your birth certificate at the town hall where you were born. I had to get mine too so we got our marriage license and my birth certificate at Hempstead town hall.

They also will give youa copy of it right then and there-you birth certificate if necessary
