Marriage Liscense...with poll....

Marriage Liscense...with poll....

Ok...what do I do? I was originally getting married here, and we had a pastor who helped us with our vows. Since we have changed the wedding out of state, do we now get a liscense there? Outr original pastor said we could sign the liscense here in NY, and just have someone read the vows at the wedding. Or should we just get a liscence in that state? What to do?

I thought you had to get the license where you get married?

That's what I thought....I'm so confused. I guess the pastor we had here said we could sign the liscense here, and technically be 'married' in N.Y. then we could just do the whole ceremony out of state and not have to worry about a liscense there...

the pastor said you could 'sign it' here--but the marriage license would have to filed by a someone who is authorized and licensed to perform a ceremony in NYS (they have a special license # and everything--and must provide it on the license when they mail it in)

so if you are marrying outside NYS---is someone who is licensed in NYS performing the ceremony outside the state? i'm a little confused by all this.

From what I understood, we would go see the pastor here...sign it with her, and be 'married' before the actual wedding. Then anybody could do the ceremony out of state, and we wouldn't have to apply for a liscense there. Is this making any sense yet? Would it be weird to be already officially 'married' before the actual wedding day?

You are confusing us.

If you are getting legally married in NYS, then you need a NYS license.
If you are having another ceremony in lets say NJ, then you do not need a NJ license because you are already legally married in NYS.

Bottom line is, you need to be licensed in the State in which you will legally be married.

I think I know what you are talking about- your pastor here would ask you and your fh if you 'take each other' and you would say 'I do' in front of her, then sign the marriage license, and be legally married in NYS, but you would have the spiritual ceremony out of state.

I think that might be easier, as you would have to find a courthouse in the other state, and file for the license at least 48 hrs. before the wedding--sounds like a headache to me!

I say get 'legally' married in NY- and have the spiritual ceremony out of state- your guests will never know!

you need to contact the township that you are getting married in.
