Married at City Hall

Married at City Hall

I don't know what the protocol is but FH asked if we could get married at city hall because currently he does not have insurance and he wants to be added to mine. If we went to city hall to get married, will the chuch find out and get annoyed? I am not really sure how to go about this.

I *think* they will. You will have to present a marriage certificate to the church which the preist has to sign and return to the state. You would have already had one. So I think they will find out.

Your employer does not cover partner?

You employer should cover a 'partner' if you guys live together. I know with mine I have to state that it was my sole partner and had to show three things that prove we live together...then you just have to have it notarized

Exactly the case at my compnay. Since we don't live together we can't do dom partnership. Even if I switch his address he has to be living with me for a year with proof. If we get caught we have to pay all the coverage $$ back.

I was wondering the same thing. But if the church finds out by sending in your signed marriage certificate, wouldn't it be too late for them to do anything about it (ie: you would already be married)

Well you could always put it to the church that you want to have your marriage blessed by the Catholic church and that's why you're having a ceremony. The church doesn't recognize a city hall marriage anyway. But I don't know if you'd have to admit it to family and friends or if the ceremony is any different. FH has no insurance either. I looked into insurance for partners, but they only do it for same sex partners.

I would look further into this because Im not sure they can legally exclude opposite sex partners.
