married girls. . wedding dress ?

so what are you all doing with your wedding dress? I know people preserve and save them but I can't imagine what I would ever do with it again or that anyone will care about it as an heirloom? I mean part of me wants to bc i LOVED it but if I can't wear it again why?

and the train right now is dirty. . I prob can't sell it w/o dry cleaning it right? AHHH I don't know what to do. . right now it's just sitting in my closet!

I'm not married yet but I plan on keeping my dress...but who knows by then I may change my mind.

If you don't see the need to keep it, then sell it. Times are rough and I'm sure you will find someone to buy it from you. Many brides have done that.

Good luck

I'd dry clean it. I used WedClean...they did a pretty ok job. It was boxed and preserved. Total cost was roughly $130 bucks

I am preserving it. My mom did this and a few years ago the box actually broke and now her dress is just turning yellow...shes been married for 28 years.

I actually tried on her dress and I thought that was so cool. I hope I can do the same with my daughter one day

I know, Im in the same boat. My train is dirty, but other than that its in great condition. Im selling mine now, even with the little bit of dirt on the bottom. For the price, you cant beat it.

There are alot of people not willing to pay alot for a used dress though, so you may want to keep it for someone special if you dont want to sell it at a cheap price. Good luck!!

I couldn't bear letting mine go for so little money. I paid to have it preserved and, if anything, I can take it out for my little girl one day and let her play around it. Also, a lot of people save it for the christening to have the little dress made out of it. But there are some great worn once dress shops that will give a decent amount for a dress in good shape. So you could have it dry cleaned and sell it.

My friend got married two years ago and just had a little baby girl. One of her friends is a seamstress and she's making her Christening dress from her wedding gown. I can't wait to see it! I thought it was such a nice idea since you can never really use the dress again.

Also, when I was little, my mom let me play dress up with her wedding dress. I LOVED playing 'bride'. Just some things to think about if you aren't sure what to do with it!

Before I got married, I wasn't going to preserve it. Didn't think it was important.
Now that I'm married and I LOVE the dress I am going to clean it and preserve it. My train is very dirty too!

Did wedclean really work?? i was skeptical about using them, but I was quoted about 560 at Kleinfelds.. so I am thinking of trying them now.

yeah that seems like it might be worth it for that! I'm also torn btwn just giving it away to someone who can't afford one but you all make such nice arguments for preserving it!

I did not get married yet but I would say ebay it or try and give it to a consignment store. Maybe LIWeddings should open up a store that sells recently used wedding dresses!

I know my mom and all my aunts saved their dresses but things get dated so quickly its not worth it

My mom had mine preserved. She surprised me and did it while I was on my honeymoon. They can def clean it, those cleaners know what they are doing. It will be nice to show our kids someday!

My cousin did this, took fabric from her dress to make a Christening outfit. It was beautiful, and you are more likely to pass down a Christening gown then a Wedding gown. Love this idea!!!

I was just talking about this to my friend- she asked what I would be doing with my dress. I also plan to use the fabric for a first communion dress and veil....should we have a daughter

I paid $80 to have mine dry cleaned and I plan on selling it sometime soon. There were some major alterations done to it so i'm trying to figure out how to list it b/c its no longer the original size.
i can't afford $350 to have it preserved to sit in a box in my moms garage.

I'm wearing it for my day after pics next month (lucky you it didn't rain on 6/7!!!) and then cleaning and preserving it. I can't bear to part it with or try to sell it!
