Martha's Vineyard - what do you ladies think

OK FH and I are so indecisive about where we want to HM mostly because we have a limited budget. This is due to the fact that we've bought a new house and are moving 1 month before the wedding. We're gonna need furniture, etc.

So noow we are considering Martha's Vineyard for 1 week. Does anyone know anything about Martha's Vineyard?

Does this sound like a cheesey HM?

i went to martha's vineyard and stayed there for a week...I had an amazing time...We rented a house for the week, the house was GORGEOUS and on 10 acres of land,it was in west tisbury, which is the only place you will get a house with alot of land...Oakbluffs the houses are very close to eachother but they're like these gingerbread, doll type houses, theyre cute...Edgarton is a nice area too.

The rate for the house was $1200 a week, which was pretty good compared to the price of the other houses and it was alot bigger.

The food is amazing there, there are quite a few activities...theres shopping, the beach, a bunch of bars in oakbluffs, they close at 12:30am just so you know.

If you have any questions feel free to FM me

I love love love Martha's Vineyard. And since you're getting married at the end of September, you're missing the insanity of tourist season, so things will be more relaxed and calm. There's a lot to do there too--you can take a ferry out to Nantucket for the day, stop by the only vineyard on the island, take long walks along the shore--gosh , I wanna go back now!

FM me if you need particulars--I'm not an expert, but I know the general lay of the land.

MV is actually pretty expensive, especially traveling to it. You might do better $$-wise going to a spa in the hamptons or to florida.

Block Island is another good alternative to MV or Nantucket. I went to a wedding there a few years ago, and it was just beautiful and not crowded at all. I'm pretty sure its a good deal cheaper than N and MV too.

Thats a very good point! I don't know if I would've thought of it. I've never been there but I've heard good things about it.
I say be happy and go wherever you want to!

hmmm i didnt even spend that much, it ended up being an inexpensive trip...We actually drove there, which was about 5.5 hours, then took the ferry in cape cod with the car, it was like $35 for the ferry...Then the restaurants and everything there were average, nothing crazy...nothing anybody from NY would raise an eyebrow about, it was similar to the prices here.

so far I've found vacations rentals ranging from $600 (WOW!) to $1300 for 1 week. The $600 rental is an apartment w/ a kitchen, living room & loft bedroom perfect for 2 people right near the beach!!! The $1300 one is one of those little gingerbread cottages! They are so cute! FH is falling in love with me all over again with this extremely low budget HM. lol Those rentals are cheaper than staying in a hotel! And we have more privacy!

the gingerbread houses are cute in oakbluffs plus its in the middle of everything...if you want privacy look at west tisbury, if they have this house called King something and next to a house with sheep, its not on your property dont worry, that is an amazing house, seriously, thats the one i stayed at.

Ill see if i can find it later...Again any info or help with anything Fm me anytime

Does anyone have any clue how to rent those little gingerbread cottages? I've been looking online and can't find anything. grrr.. I wonder if maybe they aren't for rent?

Also, any other suggestions about things to do, restaurants to check out, etc?

It doesn't sound cheesy at all. Since FH & I are paying for everything ourselves we are going through the same thing. We are thinking of going to Niagara Falls for a couple of days after our wedding and then going on a second honeymoon to Ireland for our first anniversary.

Yeah, that's what we're thinking. Martha's Vineyard HM for 1 week and then maybe Ireland or Italy for our 1st Anniversary. Those were our 1st choices for HM originally. Although I'd really love to go to Bavaria, Switzerland and Austria!

If you go to Niagra Falls I highly suggest going to the Canadian side. The American side is pretty crappy to be honest.
