MASS VS. CERMONY

MASS VS. CERMONY

What would you recommend? I was told a mass is about 1 hour plus receiving line. A cermony is about 45 min plus receiving line. Opinions??

I am having a mass and telling them to keep it as short as they possibly can, but I am having no receiving line because I feel like it will cut into my time. I'd rather make it to CH.

yeah my cousin did not have a receiving line and it was the best thing that she did. We were able to get to the RH with plenty of time to relax and take pics before cocktail hour.

Ceremony for me...leaves more time for pictures.

We did Mass and since we get to choose readings/prayers, we used the short ones and we were done in 45-50 minutes!

We're doing a ceremony plus receiving line.

I think that its a extremely personal decision which one to do. But if you want a POV of a guest, I would rather a ceremony without a mass.

Originally, we were going to have a Mass, but decided to go with the ceremony instead...just more of our style...

I think it should be what you want your day to be like. The ceremony, IMHO, is nicer for the guests b/c it's shorter. You should think about long term if you will look back and be happy you included it or if it will make you sad that you didn't.

Ceremony... for the love of your guests do NOT do a mass... they are painful for the people sitting there....

i would love a mass but FH wants a ceremony - so we are going with ceremony. . .

we are also doing a receiving line. . . not that many people usually come to the church anyway ( unfortunately) so it will go by quick. . . and it will only be us and our parents.

We're doing just a ceremony (and it will only be 20 minutes long at the most). We're NOT doing a receiving line because it wastes too much time -- we'd rather use that time for pictures and be able to chat with guests at the CH.

I wouldn't recommend one over the other but in our case we are having ceremony plus receiving line.

We are having a mass and while I realize it's long, it was very important to FH and I. We are still undecided about the receiving line however. I want to skip it because of the time factor, but FH thinks it's rude if we don't have it.

This is a decision that is based really on what's important to you... howe much do you value the Mass? Is your Catholic faith important to you? Is sharing Communion with famiyl and friends on your wedding day important to you? Do believe Christ to be present that day??? To me, having a Mass was no NO question. . . .even though I have next to no time for pictures a Mass will mean far more to Fh and I then just a ceremony.

Good luck....

We're having a mass at 2:30...CH starts at 7, plenty of time

Re: MASS VS. CERMONY

we're doing the mass becuase Fh's parents and my father's family are both rather religious, and they would raise an eyebrow if we didn't have communion....

we'll stick to short readings, and will have no receiving line

Well said, I agree... This was actually a quesiton posed to our priest at pre-cana, and he basically said your wedding should reflect you two as a couple.. if you go to mass regularly, then it makes sense to have a full mass; alternatively if you rarely go to mass, it probably is not as important for you to have the mass. Your guests should be there to celebrate with you and if that means they have to sit through an extra 15 minutes, they can deal with it.

Also, as an aside... a friend of mine pointed out how the day goes so quick anyway, you won't feel the 15 minute difference.

We are doing a mass b/c we have too much time, otherwise we would do just a ceremony since we are not very religious. The church won't let us start after 2:30 pm. I'm going to try and move my cocktail hour up to 6:30, as opposed to 7:00.
