Massages

What should you look for in a person/masseuse/massage therapist/spa/etc. when looking to get a massage?

I gt massage therapy at a doctor's office, I expect it to be clean and professional. I expect the massage therapist to be gentle friendly, etc. it's all about comfort level, because it's supposed to be a relaxing experience, not a nerve wracking one. I had one MT telling me to get changed with him in the room, that did NOT fly with me. He was fired very shortly. The focus has to be on your comfort and privacy. I'm not sure what you're asking exactly but I HTH

I guess maybe--> should they be licensed?

YES!

I absolutely believe so., If they took the time to get licensed, then I'd feel a lot more secure. i think the best/safest bet is to go to a doctor's office, pain management center, or other establishment. To me that seems to be the most comfortable and also they tend to handle it very professionally. But I don't know, that's the only place I've ever gone

A Massage Therapist in New York state MUST be licensed! Make sure your therapist is.
For a reputable LMT in your area, you can visit the American Massage Therapy Association website:

www.amtamassage.org

Let me know if you have any more questions, I am a Licensed Massage Therapist.

I'm glad you responded!
Thanks a lot!
I got a gift certificate for a massage at a spa in my neighborhood. And I'm not sure what I should be aware of when making my appointment!

If you have a male or female therapist request, let the spa know. They can't always come through, but let them know your preference.
Tell the therapist what you want them to focus on (ie: neck, legs, etc...)
If any pressure gets too deep or too light, if the room temperature is uncomfortable, etc...LET THE THERAPIST KNOW!!! We unfortunately aren't mind readers, so please speak up, it is after all your hour to enjoy.

One more thing, make sure you arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment, most spas will have you fill out an intake form, and you don't want to feel rushed when you arrive.
