Massapequa Park

We're interested in an area .... we bid on it.

There's this road Carmans and when you cross it and a wondeful area gets shady.

**Wondering why a great neighborhood we RESEARCHED changes so abruptly after this particular road.

YOu can IM me if you want more info but I bet you I have seen the house you bid on. I saw a bunch up there around Carmans that were massapequa schools, but highly undesireable areas. FM me if you want more info.

Don't you have 24 hours, legally, to retract a bid?

Didn't you drive around the area and look first???? Just because the address says Massapequa doesn't mean you will like it. You are making a 300k+ purchase, probably the most amount of money you will ever spend in one day in your life you need to not be so over zealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to be harsh, but when we bought our home we researched everything about the house before we made the purchase and we didn't bounce from house to house. (Our house was only on MLS for 1 week and had 5 offers on it)

It seems from your posts that you are jumping and bidding on so many houses. I found that really odd considering most people have to look for a long time until they finally bid on something. Are you sure that you are not being impulsive??? I can't help but think that by this post. How can you bid on a house before researching everything about it first? I hope that you are not offended by what I am saying. I just find it really unusual to bid on so many houses when you just started looking.

I personally don't see what the huge rush is to get a house right this second.

So you have lost out on a few bids. You shouldn't jump the gun cause it will lead to a situation you just put yourself in.

If I was the seller and somebody made a bid and I accepted, I would be mad pissed if that person retracted their offer.

Bidding on a house is something serious... and shouldn't be taken lightly.

LIke I said FM me if you need any help with that area. There are a ton of houses right now that list massapequa schools (which are great) but are in very shady areas. FM me if you need any help in the future. I am more than willing to answer your questions.

Also, do not be steered by real estate agents that will push'massapequa schools' because the area near carmans road is really a crappy part of town.

Thank you very much for being understanding and supportive. Actually in most situations - we've now looked at about 70 houses and bid on only 4. for the others:

When you see a lot of crap and then you see the good houses - you tend to know right away.

More importantly, any good house if you spend a week doing research that house will be gone four days before you even put your bid in.

We are not idiots - we put the bid in on areas with school districts we really like houses in and then do research. We have Newsday report card, we have connections to friends in different neighborhoods...I simply asked a question pertaining to a certain area of town in a GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD (this particular elementary school rated highest in this town).

Obviously some of you have your house and are not currently looking. We are working very hard every day, doing research and sorting through the 'crap' if you will.

If I come on here and ask a question about a part of a neighborhood please understand I am looking for background information if you have it - not to be judged by how 'impulsive I am'. So easy to judge. .

We drove around the area and looked first - and then we went BACK to the house. (to clarify for all of you) We even went back the second day to look more and that's when we saw what we did!!! Viola! A bad section! And btw, in four months we've looked at roughly 70 houses and tried our luck with four. I think those numbers are pretty reasonable.

Peacock...maybe it's time to switch realtors. ?? I know how frustrating it is to house hunt, and if the realtor you're working with is showing you crap, then maybe it's time to make a change? This is just my thought. I am certainly NOT judging or bashing you, please don't take it that way. But after seeing about 8 CR@P houses, I flat out told my realtor, look this is exactly what we want, this is what we don't want, if any homes come up that don't meet that criteria, don't bother wasting our time showing it to us, period. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Re: Massapequa Park

The area that the house was in that you looked at is known as East Massapequa, not Massapequa Park. Very different.

East Massapequa is not a desirable section of town, and they are usually not in the Massapequa district, more in Amityville I believe. Carmens Road houses are part of Amityville district, even though Berner Middle School is across the street from them. Your realtor is not telling you something.

I have lived in Massapequa my whole life so I know the area well.

I used to work over there....East Massapequa is not the area you want to live in, especially if you are planning on having your kids goto Public school.

I use to live in the apartment complex right off of Carmen's Road in Massapequa. It is definately not at place that I would want to buy a house or raise my family. The area is definately shady.

yeah...waste of time - definitely! I'm making a list of things we absolutely must have and things that we'd like in a house. I'm going to email it and try to work with a few other agents. And I'm going to tell them to only take us out if the house fits these requirements.

Hey, I responded to your FM, hope you got it.

Just an FYI, our house was the house on the corner of Carmans and Westwood right behind Sunrise mall and it was Massapequa SD #23 (or we would not have bought the house), we had it confirmed, but you do have to check and not rely on the what your real estate agent tells you. And our address was Massapequa Park, not East Massapequa.

I recently moved to Mass Park. And from what I am told Carmens road is the dividing line. One side dosnt cross the other and it has been that way for YEARS and YEARS.
We arn't far from the Park and it is a beautiful area, everyone is so nice and friendly and everyone knows everyone. Just walk into any of the stores in town and you will see it. That is the kinda small town mass park is.

Yes, bidding is serious, although I can see where peacock is coming from.
I recently but a bid on a house and it was accepted. I then went back out to look at other houses/neighborhoods and found something we like much better. I retracted my bid, and now the seller has reduced their price to even lower than we had originally agreed to.
They have no right to be pissed since they continued to show the house after we had a deal. As a seller, you have to be prepared for a prospective buyer to back out.
