I am looking into going back to school to get my degree in education. (I have a BA in Liberal Studies: concentrations in Communications and Behavioral studies, Minor in Hospitality Management).
What schools on LI offer the program? I know Dowling does, but I dont know of any others.
Also, how much are you paying for your degree? FM me if you'd like. FH and I want to get an idea of how much this is going to cost. Thanks!!

Re: Masters in Elem. Ed....
i am going to dowling right now, and unfortunately it is very costly - over $540 a credit and you need 42 credits!
the other choices that i looked into are st. joseph's and adelphi. SUNY stonybrook will not accept you if you do not have an undergrad degree in the subject you want to teach.
depending on where you live, you might want to look into the CUNY schools - queens college has a good program. but chances are you will be student teaching somewhere in the city - not sure if that is what you want.
good luck!!!!!

Re: Masters in Elem. Ed....
I know a couple of people who went to St. Joe's for elementary ed., and were really happy with it.
Someone mentioned Stony Brook...but I went there, and as far as I know they only offer it for the secondary level (middle school-high school.)
C.W. post is another choice, but I think they are even more expensive than Dowling.
If you go to any of the school's websites, you can usually find out much their tuition is.

I did my elem ed and literacy ed at dowling. However, you can go to Post, or Hofstra too! All expensive. Also, I believe adelfi and st. joe's have it too.
Too bad suny stonybrook doesnt...it would save money.
WHEN ARE YOU MOVING HOME?????

Re: Masters in Elem. Ed....
I just got my Masters in Special ed at C.W. Post and I have $20,000 in loans to start paying back in July. I am not sure what it is per credit, but that was my total for the whole program not including books!!

Re: Masters in Elem. Ed....
DH is doing a Masters in ed... through Touro College, but the first 18 credits are through CItE (Center for Integrated Teacher Education) and the classes are only $500 each. The next 18 credits are only $900 each... the number is 1-877-922-2483 or www.citeonline.com
They have classes in all the boroughs and LI and they are offered on Sundays and weeklong classes during the vacations (ex. 5 Sundays and you have three credits).... let me know if you need more info.

Re: Masters in Elem. Ed....
its far but you might also want to look into either queens college or hunter college - queens college is in queens (DUH! ) and hunter is in manhattan but they are both good schools for ed and also much cheaper b/c they are cuny schools. i got my first masters at hunter and loved it - the professors are great from experince - i had one who actually taught at princeton f/t and was an adjunct at hunter so i got a princeotn education in that class for the cuny rate!

Re: Masters in Elem. Ed....
i just got my masters in special ed from Hofstra and it is rather pricey.. but comparable to most other colleges around here.. the best bet if you are concerned about money would be to go to Queens College.. they are more reasonable.. good luck!
