Re: Maternity Clothes

I WAS DYING to wear maternity clothes, lol.
I put them on when I was on the cruise, for the first time, just for fun. I was 4months.I just put on a maternity shirt, to 'look prego' but the belly part was still empty LOL.
I really didnt start showing till 5-6m. everyones body is different. I used alot of my everyday wardrobe (loose pants, bigger shirts).
you really dont have to buy that much mat clothes if you dnot want to. its all a matter of if you want to or not. you will maybe need 2-4 pairs of pants. 2-4 shorts, and some tops. the rest you can use what you have if you have looser stuff..

Edited to say I had an entire wardrobe of my sis and cousins borrowed clothes, so I didnt have to buy much !

Why are you dreading it? Maternity clothes are so nice now. Go to babystyle.com They have lots of really nice stuff- not those big shirts with the huge bows at the top like our Mom used to have to wear.
You will also want maternity bras- from what I have heard. I got some Yoga-pants with elastic bands too. Those are comfty to wear.
I plan on getting some maternity pants, shorts and tops for the summer.

Re: Maternity Clothes

I definitely think your 'need' to buy will vary depending upon how fitted you normally wear your pre-pregnancy clothes.

My best friend is very tall and slender, and she usually wears her clothes fitted - that is, not tight, but figure-flattering (b/c she can). When she was PG, she did not have to wear maternity clothes until the last couple of months. However, she had to buy herself an entire new wardrobe of larger sized regular clothes b/c even though she wasn't showing, as her body changed, her pre-pregnancy clothing could not fit comfortably anymore.

Don't be too scared to make the switch to maternity clothes, Jenn. Although, you don't need to yet - you look great! Try just buying one size up from your pre-pregnancy size for now...maybe that will help ease your transition.

Re: Maternity Clothes

Thanks for the insight. I should have been more specific in my dread... While I really am not looking forward to losing what I have left of my figure, my real problem is I don't want to have to address the subject of pregnancy with my present class's parents, so I was wondering how long I would be able to avoid it. So it's possible that I MAY make it to June??
I tend to wear more form fitting clothes, especially in the spring and summer, so my every day wardrobe is starting to diminish already, as my chest is expanding at an alarming rate, and my waist is slowly disappearing, but I am not showing yet.

I got a maternity outfit for Easter, and it's adorable, but it looks silly on me right now. The pants are great, low rise, under the belly, but the top is empire waisted, and it looks a little empty on me.

Re: Maternity Clothes

Jenn you should totally make it to june.
I was due Oct 3rd, and my MIL's party was the 2nd weekend in june i think. and i was JUST unable to button my bathing suit shorts. so I was just outgrowing my reg size. I cant remember any other 'landmark' dates to remember what I was wearing/not wearing. and I was still wearing my reg clothes. Of course I was growing at the waistline, and fuller in the face, but no 'belly' that would have shown if anyone didnt know i was prego. make sense ?
again it all depends on what type of clothes you already own, how you like to wear it, and maybe you WANT to wear some CUTE maternity things!!!

Edited to add, the BEST is when all of a sudden you 'pop' and have this little pouch growing !!!

I LOVE IT !!

Michele31 - you are soo funny. You know what's sad? I am getting a mental picture of those shirts, heck it was like wearing 'the scarlet letter' for pregnant women!

I think teaching children that having a baby is part of normal life is fine. What is wrong with these parents?

The kids will not notice if you wear the next size up or some baggier stuff.

Re: Maternity Clothes

Jen, you can still be hip and preggo. Why don't the parents want their children to know about pregnancy?? How old are they?? Don't they ask where babies come from??

Re: Maternity Clothes

Thanks for the cute clothes pictures Shamma! It's nice to know I can still be FLY!

As for the parents, I must certainly be suffering from preggo brain, because I am NOT explaining myself well at all today.

The reason I don't want to get into it with the parents is not because of pregnancy itself, but because next year I will be out of work for about 12 weeks (not including vacations and holidays), and parents literally riot when they hear that. As soon as this year's parents catch wind, they will practically RUN home to tell every parent in their neighborhood with an up coming kindergartner to write a letter that they don't want to be in my class next year. It starts a big uproar that I'd rather my principal and I didn't have to deal with. People will actually offer to watch a teacher's kid, if it means they will be coming back to work sooner. I don't know how it is in other districts, but this is the way it is in mine. Many people are supportive, but just as many ARE NOT.
If I can make it through the school year without anyone knowing, it will be a much easier spring for me and my administrators.

As parents and non teachers, you might think this is terrible of me, to with-hold info, but imagine if people YOU worked with freaked out rather than celebrated when you announced your pregnancy.

I'm jealous of you girls who can wear the *fly* stuff. My PRE-preg body was not exactly suited (no pun intended) for that!

I started wearing my sister's, read: NO cost to Kathi, maternity clothes at about 20 weeks. I still haven't bought a single thing!! YAY!!

I don't know what I'll do for a black-tie wedding at the Waldorf when I'm 37 1/2 weeks!!! UGH. I may not go. I refuse to spend $200+ on a dress I'll wear once... how much was my wedding dress again?

Jen, this sentence made me laugh
'People will actually offer to watch a teacher's kid, if it means they will be coming back to work sooner.'
Are you serious ?? Thats too funny !

I think you can make it without anyone noticing. Depending on how you dress

Kathi-you can get something nice at Target or Motherhood in black. I had a wedding when I was 5wks from my due date, I wore black dress pants (those ANY OCCASION -DRESSUP OR DRESS DOWN type pants-LOVE THEM!!) and I bought a cute blouse (Which was non-maternity-just bought a big size..) and it was perfect. Didnt spend much at all !

I even have a long black dress which fits loose normally, but fit snug when I was prego. and I wore that to another wedding 4 wks from my due date.
