Maui or Kauai?
We are still trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon and as of right now, I think I'm leaning towards Hawaii. My question is this, I have done some searches on the site and am wondering what the difference is between Maui and Kauai? It seems as though most people only stay at the Kauai hotels for 3 nights and Maui for more... is there a reason for this? Also, I have gotten some quotes for the Hyatt resorts, are either of them nicer than the other?THANKS!

Re: Maui or Kauai?
hi mishy - I am going to hawaii (maui and kauai) for my honeymoon in October. It took me a long time to decied on which islands to go to and for how long. I also wanted to go to the Big Island but most people told me not too. Although I hear the 4 Seasons there is better than the one in Maui. This is what I hear: Kauai is gorgeous and relaxing. Perfect place for a honeymoon but there is not much to do on the island. I hear there is tons to do in Maui. Since my FI and I are active and like to keep busy we are going to Maui for 7 and Kauai for 3 days.
I am staying at the Grand Wailea in Maui and the Hyatt in Kauai.
I hear that the part of Maui called Wailea is the nicest although you will have to drive to the nightlife and daytime activities. Next door to the Grand Wailea is the 4 Seasons and I have a few friends that stayed there and loved it.
Everyone I know who went to Kauai stayed at the Hyatt Regency.

Re: Maui or Kauai?
I went to Maui and Kauai in June. We stayed in Maui at the Fairmont Kae Lani (in Wailea) for 7 nights and Kauai (at the Hyatt) for 4 nights. Both were gorgeous. There are a lot of activites on Maui - Kauai is much more relaxed-pace, however there are things to do there as well. Both of these hotels were gorgeous. Any questions, feel free to ask!

Re: Maui or Kauai?
We are going to Maui and Kauaii too and we are staying in Kauaii for 4 days and Maui for 8. We made our decisions based on the same factors as bridetobe. We are staying at the Hyatt in Kauaii (we also looked into the Princeville) and the Four Seasons in Maui. Also we are going to Kauaii first and Maui second, which we were recommended to do also. Good Luck

Re: Maui or Kauai?
Mishy,We went to both islands and we personally liked Maui better. We are both very active and Maui offered more in the form of nightlife and excursions. We were there for 5 days and loved every minute of it. We stayed in Kanaapali Beach.
As for Kauai, it is breathtakingly gorgeous, but very mellow. It can also be very rainy there. We stayed at the Princeville Resort. It was gorgeous but IMO it was a bit stuffy (attitude wise) not to mention expensive
Hawaii is beautiful you will not regret going there

Re: Maui or Kauai?
We heard that Kauai is known for it's gorgeous beaches. I'm sure Maui's beaches are absolutely gorgeous too! We had planned to go to Maui, Kauai and Ohau (we want to go to Pearl Harbor), but just changed our plans to skip Kauai and spend more time in Maui. We got the Hyatt island hopper pass that includes a car, breakfast everyday and rooms at both Hyatts.

Re: Maui or Kauai?
My FH and I are doing a cruise in Hawaii. The cruise starts n Honolulu then we go to Hilo the Big Island, Maui, and Kauai. We are also going to Fanning Island. We thought it would be cool to hit all the islands and the Nowegian Cruise line is new. We booked excursions we are going to do on each island. Then we are staying in Honolulu 3 additional nights.

Re: Maui or Kauai?
We had an AMAZING honeymoon in Hawaii in July. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in both Maui and Kauai--both were beautiful but very different fromm each other. I'd say the Hyatt in Maui is more 'cosmopolitan' and the one in Kauai is more relaxed--same goes for each island. There's plenty to do and see on both islands, but things may be less obvious on Kauai. I liked Maui a bit better just for the weather, the choices and the excitement. Kauai was more mellow, it did get overcast a lot but cleared up quickly. Kauai seems more 'untouched' while Maui has more of a luxorious resort feel, so it depends on what you're looking for. If you're going to do the two islands, I would suggest doing Maui first and ending with Kauai, by the end of the trip you'll be totally relaxed! I highly recommend both Hyatts, esp.on Kauai because you have less choices of luxury hotels there. Have a wonderful time!!!

Re: Maui or Kauai?
Thanks so much ladies for getting back to me. You have all got me very excited and can't wait to make the final decision. Thanks for clarifying the difference for me and for your opinions on the hotels!

Re: Maui or Kauai?
We did 5 days in both maui and kauai, the 4 seasons in maui (my favorite place i have ever been!) and hyatt in kuaui. unfortunately, we had a lot of overcast weather in hawaii, just a bad weather pattern, esp in kauai. but i could never complain, both were great, but we just loved the intimacy and incredible pampering and service at the 4 seasons. the hyatt was great too, but much bigger, and maybe bec it was pretty rainy too it was not as good as maui for us. wailea beach (maui) is perfect for snorkeling, where the beach in front of the hyatt is definitely rougher, but great to see surfers! you will love any choice you make i think...Welcome New Vendors
