Maui--Sheraton or Hyatt????

Maui--Sheraton or Hyatt????

I don' t post often, but I do get a lot of great information on liweddings. I was wondering if I could get your advice on where to stay in Maui for our honeymoon. I spoke to a travel agent and she put together a package for us on Maui for 5 nights at the Hyatt. I was just concerned about the beach there, since I heard on tripadvisor.com that it has a rocky bottom. My other choice is the Sheraton. Does anyone have any opinions about either the Hyatt or Sheraton? I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks girls!!

We really liked the Hyatt.

It's weird, but at most of the hotels everyone stays near the pool. I was there in January, the water wasn't too cold though.

It's not like the Carribean at all, the water gets deep fast, so you can't swim out that far.

There are rocky parts and sandy parts. I didn't find it to be a problem at all.

You can walk up and down the beach by all the neighboring hotels.

The beach at the Hyatt is small, but it's not a problem because like I said, everyone is by the pool, which is right on the beach.

ditto.

And the pool area was really nice. We liked it much better than the Marriott pool area, which we walked to. Didn't see the Sheraton, though.

It was really nice. I think it was 75-80 everyday. I was in my bathing suit and shorts and tees the entire time. The weather was perfect.

Thank you!! I really keep going back between the Hyatt and the Sheraton. And I'm trying to think if we would want a better beach or a better hotel--and I guess a better hotel is the way to go if we can walk down the beach to a better spot anyway....aghhhh i'm so indecisive!

I can't say for sure how the two compare since I'm not going until July, but I do know that FH and I got a nicer room for the money at the Sheraton than we could have for the Hyatt and that's how we made our decision. Since we'll be spending lots of time in the room, we opted for a nicer room!

I would definately say the Hyatt. It is BEAUTIFUL there. When I went we stayed at the four Seasons on the other side of the island but went to the hyatt one day. My advice would be not to worry about the beach there. The surf around maui seems to be really rough and you probably will spend more time by the pool, unless you really love the beach. I heard and read great things about the Hyatt.... I dont recall anyone I know ever going to the sheraton.

You'll be in Maui...... you'll be happy wherever you stay!!!! Who has the better rate??

we stayed at the sheraton in maui.
i would not recommend staying there for your HM.
they did not make us feel special and sometimes our room was not made up until after 4pm and they charge you $$ for towels for the beach/pool.

Re: Maui--Sheraton or Hyatt????

We went in December and the weather was nice. The water tends to be rough at that time of year so definitely don't make the decision based on the beach. It is a great time though to walk out towards the beach, at either place, and whale watch though.

We stayed at the Westin which was in between both of those hotels and I liked the pool area of the Hyatt better than the Sheraton.

One other plus about the Hyatt is that they seem to have a breakfast deal if you stay at more than one Hyatt in Hawaii. That deal can save you a lot of $$ on food!

never been there, but just from reputation alone, I'd go with the Hyatt

We stayed at the Hyatt and loved it! At first I was slightly disappointed with our room...but I think it was the bridezilla in me! We had a great time and the pool is amazing! I dont think we went into the ocean too much, but the hotel was awesome! I particularly loved the penguins in the lobby! ha

Re: Maui--Sheraton or Hyatt????

Well, I guess I'm the oddball cause we stayed at the Hyatt and I wasn't thrilled. The beach was very unswimmable (we had just stayed at the Sheridan on Kuai which was very swimmer friendly) and in my opinion why are we going all this way to hang by the pool which was what we were forced to do. Also, the hotel was huge! I felt like I was on a cruiseship or in Vegas, not the intimate HI feeling I was looking for. We had an ocean view room, and that was a real stretch to see it and took us about 10 minutes to actually get to it. A real PITB when you want to run to your room to go to the bathroom!
I think I was just spoiled from our experience In Kuai where we were in our rooms into the ocean in about 2 minutes..so awesome!
It's all in your looking for cause obviously I am the minority on this thread!

I'm sure you'll have a great time wherever you decide!!

Re: Maui--Sheraton or Hyatt????

thank you all for your opinions and advice! I had to decide last night, so I picked the Hyatt. The Sheraton was actually $300 more for the 5 nights, but the Hyatt's website photo's were gorgeous, and the travel agent recommended the Hyatt.
We are doing a second week in Kuai (spelled wrong?) and hopefully that's when we can get most of our 'beach' time in if we want it. I'm just glad something else on my list of to-do's is over with!! Thanks for all the help!

Are you staying at the Hyatt in Kauai too? There isn't really a swimmable beach there either.
