Max # of people at the reception hall

Max # of people at the reception hall

Hi- I need some advice. The reception hall we like has a 180 max on heads and our list is 209. Is this playing with fire? Should the hall accomodate approx the same # or more people (within reason) on our list?

We have another option which we also would be very happy with which can hold more people but there is about $40 a head price increase.

Thanks for your help

My rh told me to expect 18% of the responses to be 'not attending'... so, if you go by that you should expect 172 people to attend.... its a close call. do you know if anyone will definatly not be attending? I would ask whoever is taking care of your party at the rh their opinion.

Honestly don't think so.
You should be fine with that number, unless everyone decides to attend.

We invited 206 people, and will have 154 attending.

im having the same problem.. my hall max is 180 comfortably. so they could fit more but might be tighter. we originally thought we would have 150. but the list kept growing. so we invited 190 and hoping that we get alot of no's
which hall are you looking at??

I just went to a wedding where they invited 250 and 235 showed up. That is my nightmare. I need at least 40 to say no....is that awful???

I wouldn't be comfortable going more than 10 over the max capacity. We've had a reasonable number of declines, but at my parents anniversary, we had 58 out of 60 accept, and they all came.

My advice would be to make a B list of the remaining 30 people, if you can't trim anywhere else. Cut any 'and guests' you may have.

I think the answer depends on your guests. For example, we invited 210 people and 192 showed up. The reason for that is, about 60% of the guests are our friends and 30% of the guests are my parents' and his parents' really close friends and our families on both sides as well. The remaining 10% was our co-workers. I have to say, we only had maybe a handful of nos from friends and family and the rest was actually coming from co-workers. I think evaulating from that point of view may be able to make it more clear for you and try to get a feel who would really come.
I personally think that you should be fine with the numbers.

You would probably be okay, but it would make me nervous. I would recommend doing a B-list too. I would also be cautious when a hall says what their max number is X...even when they say it'll be 'comfortable', you just never know.

Depending on the time and week day of your wedding you should be ok. Normally not everyone makes it. Find out with your RH how the place would look if you were to add one extra table.

I think you will be fine with your numbers for the first hall.

You can always have a 'B' list. I really didn't want one but we had to do it. Just make sure you give your 'B' list guests ample time, not where you invite them 2 weeks before the wedding, that would look obvious and may be offensive to them. But honestly, I think your numbers will be fine.

Heres the problem, RH's always give you a higher number for the max...they do it bc of course they would prefer to make more money and squeeze in as many as they can...Truth is the max # you are given is if they REALLY made it a tight squeeze, always go by a little less than what you are told

That's fine because not everyone will be able to come anyway.

That's a good point.

I agree, I went to a wedding recently and they obviously filled this place to MAX and it was sooo uncomfortable. I barely knew anyone and I was eating practically on top of a stranger, kept bumping into people all night, everytime I got out of my seat. I would say you should try to go there and look at the room set up for a wedding with the max number and see how it looks...

IMO it is risky...Can you shop around a little more to find a hall that will accomadate all of your guests at a better price than RH #2?

I agree with this also. I went to several places that gave me a max number and just by looking at the room you could tell that it would never hold that many people or you would be completely ontop of each other. If you come too close to the max number the dance floor is going to get over crowded too ... keep that in mind.

Yup CLM told me 300 ppl, and when we went there was a party set up for 175 ppl, i c ouldnt even imagine double the ppl in there. They would go soooo far back by the bar and wouldnt be able to see anything

Re: Max # of people at the reception hall

Try to figure out how many of your invites are 'for invitation sake only'... meaning that you know that they won't/can't come. Then you will have a realistic idea of who will show up minus about 10%.

Also, screw what the RH says about maximum capacity... yea I could seat 150 people in my room if there were all 5 year old girls.... 12 broad shouldered men per table? ha!

Re: Max # of people at the reception hall

i would figure everyone showing up because it can happen...my two sisters got married and maybe 5 people didnt come to each of their weddings.....when you want NO'S they all say YES!!!.....

talk with the RH to see if they can accommidate if all guests show up...
