maybe a dumb question--guest list

maybe a dumb question--guest list

How did everyone decide where to cut off their list?
I have immediate family, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, but then I'm not sure about great aunts/great uncles?
I know every family is different, but some I'd love to hear what you guys thought.

We went for John's whole family (divorced parents but small on both sides). With my family i went for aunts and uncles and sisters and hubbys/bf's. No cousins or anything, and no kids.

hope that helps.

Thanks. I have a stepmom whose family is small, but extended family is close. I don't want to offend anyone, but I also don't want to get carried away.

We're inviting as far as my 2nd cousins. FH doesn't have a big family, so it wasn't really an issue on his side.

immediate is not large .. so it dwindled to other relatives and close friends..

Aunts, Uncles, first cousins are few favorite second cousins and friends no kids and some people are limited to no guest

This is good. I don't feel as bad about putting limitations now. Still not 100% sure what to do, but I think I have a better idea.

We invited aunts, uncles, and first cousins, but not second cousins, great aunts, etc. If we added those groups, we'd have 200 people just from family alone!

We did immediate family, aunts, uncles, FIRST cousins our friends, some coworkers, and parents friends. Both our families our so large we could not really invite outside of this.

Re: maybe a dumb question--guest list

We're hoping for 85 people, so we have to be very careful with our guest list. We both have pretty small families. Neither of us has any grandparents living, and I have one great-uncle, who is in bad health in Florida so there's no way he's coming. I hardly know him, anyway. We're both inviting most of our first cousins. I say 'most' because I have several first cousins who are much older than I am, I never talk to them, and they live way out west so I know they're not going to come, and if I send an invite it's only going to be seen as a plea for a present. I have a couple of cousins in California that I would like to come, but I doubt it, as both have small babies, one, in fact, has twins. So trying to decide which family to invite wasn't a big deal. Our problem was more where to cut off with co-workers, and how close our friends are. Is this someone we speak to frequently? Is this a coworker we're inviting just because we're inviting everyone else? That sort of thing.

we're doing ALL the generations of the family.. we have to [and want to]
my family is very close, and luckily doesnt really exeed 100.. and our minimum is 150, so it is our extended group of friends who will probably not make the cut

We are doing my whole family because it's small. FH is one of 10 children, and the rest of his family is huge. We are doing his immediate family, his mom's siblings and then specific relatives he would like to invite.

It's a challenge. Good Luck!

We did immediate family up to first cousins. And my nieces and nephew. (4 kids) Friends we invited were close friends that we keep in touch with on a weekly-bi weekly basis.
