Well as many of you know they are working on Milburn pond/lake.......and the Coral house di not inform me of nada. I called another place and they are available for my date. I would only gave to reprint my invitations. My photographer is willing to travel and I havent booked limos yet. Church would be the same. Have to pay for centerpieces now but a part of me feels that at least we would have the wedding we want.

Maybe that is for the best . . .
Is the CH going to refund your money, since you were MISLEAD?
Where are you thinking of having the wedding now?
You should not have to SETTLE- it is your wedding!!!!!!!

Did you have your heart set on CH or was it just a nice place that fit your budget? How do you feel about the new place? Are you really excited about it? I know $$$ has to factor in to the situation, but it is your wedding. You don't want to have any regrets later on. Do what makes you happy!
I really felt like this was where i wanted to have my reception but something is missing without the view.

Re: Maybe changing Hall.....Coral House
Mya..we had our wedding there also - and didnt find out about the lake being dredged until a month before the big day. I was SOOO pissed that they didnt tell us anything...I did some research and spoke with the project manager himself who told me that CH was aware back in Jan 2003 that work would begin sometime that year...(they broke ground Sept 2, 2003) Anyhow, CH says they didnt say anything when we booked with them (Feb 2003) because they didnt have an 'exact' start date, and didnt want to worry brides!! HOG WASH!! I told them it was because they didnt want to lose business, and I DEMANDED a discount - and got it! Despite being very pissed and having to find another venue for pics (Planting Fields), everything turned out beautifully, and it was such a beautiful day, I AM SO GLAD WE WENT TO THE PLANTING FIELDS...so much prettier for pictures...Also, Kristen and the CH staff, went above and beyond on our day, to make sure everything was perfect. If you have your heart set on CH, then demand they compensate you with SOMETHING!! If you've found another alternate, and can stand to lose your deposit, (CH probably wont refund it b/c of the contract) then go with your gut - its YOUR day. You deserve to have it the way you envisioned!! Dont settle. Hope things work out for the best...feel free to FM me if you want more info.
ETA: Depending on the room you chose and the time of your recep. - you can't even see anything at night...besides, your guests will be so busy having a good time, they wont even notice theres no lake! mine didnt..

I would really read over your contract carefully - because if it says anything about being able to take pictures on the lake - or anything about the lake - maybe you could get your deposit back!

The lake is county property...Coral House doesnt even own the park benches in the back.. the county removed the wooden slats from them when the work began.. ANYBODY can basically walk onto the back of the property and take pics...(well they wouldnt now, b/c they put up a big white fence)..

Re: Maybe changing Hall.....Coral House
Hi.
As you know I got married at Coral House and I was very happy. I got married by the lake and it was BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Now if I had known they were doing this to the lake - I would have changed halls in a heartbeat.
IMO, if you are getting married in a warm month and in the daytime at that place you would want the lake to be presentable.
The lake will be in your pics. I was in the Nantucket room and I have quite a few pics of the lake in my backgounds.
I do not mean to scare you, but just being honest. All of my pre reception pics were taken outside. There are not alot of indoor picture opportunities.

Re: Maybe changing Hall.....Coral House
I had my reception there. I booked the oyster bay planting fields arboretum for pics, and the lake at the CH was there at the time, i just thought oyster bay was an amazingly beautiful place.
My cocktail hour began at 7:30 and i was in the ballroom. i had all the huge windows and you can see the lake very easily. but, it got dark 30 min later so no one really was looking at the lake then.
i say do what makes you happy. if you love the CH stay with it, if not, find another place.
it's your day, be happy!
CH does not own the lake, the county does.

To be honest. I love the CH but I am disappointed (they are so nice) that they chose not to VOLUNTARILY reveal this information considering when I booked they knew the lake would be dredged. Its dishonest and in my opinion can be considered SHADY BUSINESS. ESPECIALLY FOR AN EVENT LIKE A WEDDING......shoot especially mine.
They said it will be finished by mid may. Pray for me.
