What exactly is the receiving line, and does everyone have one?

The receiving line is when you,fh, and the bridal party stand in a line after the ceremony and people line up to say hi, kiss and hug, etc.
I do not think I am having one, because my ceremony is at the reception hall and I don't want people to miss the cocktail hour because they are standing there waiting.

the B&G usually stand with their parents at the exit to the church and greet all of the guests coming out...
we didn't want to have one b/c we got married in the hall as well...
but we made sure that we greeted every single person at the cocktail hour...and 3 X during the reception...when people ate...we'd go to every table...and then sit and eat ours...

we did not do one, we greeted our guest at our cocktail hour and at our reception. We saw every guest a least 2X

We unfortunately don't have time for a receiving line because our recetion and ceremony are at the same place and we have to take some pictures during the cocktail hour - we'll greet them at the reception itself....
