Mean, mean people

I had my shower yesterday and was just informed by my FH that three of his Aunts thought I was a little obnoxious, not appreciative and sarcastic when opening their gifts. I am floored and don't know whether to scream or cry or both. I have asked everyone else who was there if there was any way this could be true and they all said these women are out of their minds. His family has always been difficult but this takes the cake. I'm so afraid that now every time I think about my shower I am going to think about this.

Any words of wisdom?

Re: Mean, mean people

Let it go! You can't control what someone else is going to think - and it's not worth your time to worry about them. Since no one else sees what they're talking about, chalk it up as their problem, and not yours!

Re: Mean, mean people

You can't let that crap get to you...You aren't going to be able to please everyone all the time...a lesson i learned during my wedding planning. I let it bother me and for what...it only got ME upset and never solved anything..

forget about them and enjoy this time!

IGNORE THEM! Don't allow them to ambush such an important and wonderful memory.

Re: Mean, mean people

Focus on the positive parts of your shower. I'm sure it was a great day. Just remember that and all of the other people that were there to show how much they care. Don't let them ruin your day!!

Re: Mean, mean people

they are probably jealous of a young, beautful, happy bride! Back in their days, there were no 'registries' and they had to accept whatever they were given and they are probably just bitter.

Just put it out of you mind. Whenever you START to think about them, just change your thoughts to something more positive and before you know it, their comments will be distant memories!

You are right, they are just mean people. Please try not to let them get the best of you. Remember your happy moments of your shower!

I agree with this. I think it is actually a little crappy that this was even said to your FH. Ignore what they said. Did you have a great day.. because really that's all that matters.

Re: Mean, mean people

Not that it really matter, but I'm just curious what gifts they gave you. I mean, Bridal Showers are usually upbeat and the ladies are always making jokes so the bride is always laughing. It could be that you and your BP were laughing at something else or maybe the gift they give you seemed funny and you made an innocent comment that they miscontrued??

In any case, ignore them. I learned a long time ago that people are going to talk about you no matter what. So, you shouldn't have to act a certain way or even care if they don't like your attitude. It's their problem.
