How do you cook meatballs? Do you fry them or bake them or simmer them in the sauce for a few hours? My mother fries them, but DH said we should cook them in sauce for hours

Re: Meatballs - (stupid question)
I think my stepmom fries them a bit so that they keep their shape when simmering in the sauce

I fry them first, but not until completely cooked - just til the outdide is cooked and then simmer them in the sauce for awhile. In a pinch, I just simmer them in the sauce!

I brown them for a couple of minutes and then throw them in the Sauce. My MIL just throws them in the sauce without browning them. I love them both ways!

I either bake mine or fry them half way and put them in the sauce. I like baking them better these days

Re: Meatballs - (stupid question)
My mom fries them a little and then throws them in the sauce.. not very healthy.. I have baked them before and they tasted yummy. I actually know someone that boils them first. They say it is yummy too. I don't know if I would ever do that though.

I fry them all the way thru and then add them to the sauce for at least an hour of cooking. The best is having one right out of the oil - yummy!!
I don't like baked ones - usually too mushy for me. I have never had a baked one I like!

Re: Meatballs - (stupid question)
I used to fry them and hated every second of it. One side would burn, they wouldn't be completely round, just dreaded it. Recently I was talking to my brother about it and he told me to prepare the meatballs and just throw them in the sauce raw and let them cook in the sauce. I tried this and they were awesome!! They were firm but yet not tough, really great. I will never fry them again I'm making a sauce today and plan to do it this way again

How do you cook them raw in the sauce and they don't fall apart? I guess you just have to make sure to stir the sauce gently? I always fry mine a little first and then cook the rest of the way in the sauce.

my mom bakes them first (until they're brown) and then puts them in the sauce to simmer and add some flavor

Re: Meatballs - (stupid question)
I thought my mom used to bake them, so I did when I needed to make a bunch for a party. Turns out she cooked them on the stove just to brown/cook thru- no sauce.
I guess it isn't important as long as they are cooked alway through. If you cook them on the stove you can add onions and peppers- gives them a little more flavor.

Re: Meatballs - (stupid question)
I fry them till the outsides are brown all over and then let them simmer in the sauce for at least an hour. The longer you cook it, the better it tastes.

It depends on how big there are.

Re: Meatballs - (stupid question)
lol - I do BOTH
First, I give them a quick fry on high heat so that they are all brown and crusty on the outside, then I drop them in the sauce for a LONG time.
I like the texture better this way, but I find it to be just a tad oily sometimes.
