Re: Meatloaf recipe???

I have seen the same recipe but without the mustard and they substituted the corn flakes for bread crumbs.
I have also seen recipes that add tomato paste

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

Here's my recipe-I use a meat trio of ground beef, veal, and pork (about 2 lbs). Mix w/ 2 eggs, prepackaged meatloaf mix, and I chop an onion and add it in. Then I out it into a loaf pan-cover my hands with oil and spread it all over the top. Then I take breadcrumbs in my hands and spread well onto the top to make a good crust. Bake for about 1 1/2 at 350.

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

Try this: trio of ground meat, 2 slices white bread(make into crimbs w/food processor), 1 egg, 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 celery stalk (all minced), 1 tsp rosemary, 1/3 cup ketchup, 1 Tb parsley, 2 teasp. dry mustard powder. mixed together, knead for 1 minute, shape into loaf.

The glaze: 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 tb brown sugar, 1 tsp dry mustard powder. spread this over the loaf and then cook for 1 hour. You will have a meat loaf that tastes like candy! (well not exactly, but just as good! )

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

These all sound so good! I made my own last night w/ BBQ sauce and onion, it was okay but a little blah, even though FH said it was good. It was the first time ever I made meatloaf!! All your recipes sound good, have to print them out.

I'm a huge kitchen/cooking/cleaning spaz. I wish i was better at it sometimes. Thanks for the help.

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

In mine I put egg, italian seasonings (basil, oregano, etc), garlic, bread crumbs, and tomato sauce. Then I brush tomato sauce on top before I put it in the oven. I hate when the outside is crispy. FH says my meatloaf tastes like meatballs, but that's the way we like it.

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

My Mom's recipe that I've always made is very basic. I don't have exact amounts, it's just by eye but I'll try to approximate

Ground beef (about 1.5 lbs.)
1 egg
milk (1/2 cup???)
Breadcrumbs (I use the seasoned Italian kind - a handful or 2)

Mix the egg, milk and breadcrumbs to make a slurry. (not to thick, you want it soupy, but not runny. The breadcrumbs will continue to soak up liquid - add more milk if necessary.)
Add the ground beef and mix well
Cook in loaf pan (or mold into a loaf shape and cook in a cassarole dish if you don't have a loaf pan) at 375º F. for about 50 minutes. (time will vary depending on the amount of meat and size and shape of loaf - watch for it to start getting some darker, browned crusty areas)

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

My hubby is in charge of meatloaf. He uses the seasoning/baking bag from Lawrys or McCormick. I think you just need to add breadcrumbs and an egg.

Comes out perfect everytime...and the baking pan is easy to clean.

Mmmmmm...meatloaf!!!!

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

I wing it but this is what I do:

Chopped meat, 1 egg, bread crumbs, parsley, grated onion (or a 1/2 to full packet of Liptons Onion Soup mix), salt, pepper. Mix it all together. Form it into a loaf and bake in oven for about 25 minutes. Pour 1 (small) can of tomato sauce (I usually get Red Pack or Hunts) on top and coop for 5 minutes more. Yum!

Re: Meatloaf recipe???

LOL! I just finished making meatloaf today! I also just wing it. This time I used the meatloaf mix (chopped veal, beef, and pork) 2 eggs, ricotta cheese, home made tomato sauce, parmesean, onion, garlic, red and green peppers, red pepper flakes, salt/pepper, and I think that's about it! I usually make it to help clean out the frige. The other recipes also look and sound great!

Best of luck!
Lora
