We are leaving on our honeymoon the day after our wedding, so I have to pack soon. I was wondering for those who have been to Europe and did any tours, what is the standard dress code, sort of speak. I bought comfortable flip flops to walk around in the cities, but my friends mentioned that people dress up and wear heels...is that true?
No heels! I lived in Spain for a summer, and in England for a year, and did a lot of traveling. Flip-flops and sneakers will definitely mark you as a tourist. But... you are a tourist. Your English will also tip people off! Wear what makes you comfortable.
If you want to blend in as you walk around (which, to be honest, I always do), you'd wear skirts instead of shorts - equally comfortable, and Europeans don't wear shorts at all - and comfy sandals instead of flip-flops.

i agree. I went on a med cruise and to italy for my honeymoon. no one was dressed up; if anything i wore lots of summer dresses and pretty sandals but most everyone was casual (especially in italy). i packed two pairs of heels that i never wore. definitely try to go for comfy sandals because flip flops hurt after a while

Thanks. If that's the case, please recommend your comfy sandals...I haven't had much luck with comfy shoes.
honestly...you are going to be walking on cobble stone streets for long periods of time. Be comfy. You are a tourist and they know you are one. If you have comfy flip flops wear them.
Europeans do dress up more but they are not on tours. You don't need to twist an ankle or get an unbearable blister.
I do trips to Europe with kids and my legs and feet ache at the end of the day in sneakers!!
if you are planning on visiting any of the cathedrals or famous churches, most make women cover their knees and shoulders- so have a wrap and a couple longer skirts/capris to wear for those days & dont forget the formal nights on the cruise- when we did our 12-day, I think there was 3 nights

Did you take any particular tours that you stood out? We decided to wing it for now.

I am not sure what your itinerary is- but we did mostly Italy, and Croatia, the south of France/Monaco and Barcelona. All the tours that we did were great- but my favorite was the Sorrento & Swim- it was a shopping morning with a beach afternoon- in general any of the ones that you pick through the cruise company are great. where are you guys going?
