Meeting the New Neighbors

Meeting the New Neighbors

On Saturday the first neighbor stopped by with Cookies and a bottle of Kobel. I was outside on the side of the house (at the 20-yard dumpster we had to get for all the crap they left behind) and my DH was in the basement throwing things out the window.

My question is: Should I have asked her if she wanted a tour of my house? I was outside and felt funny. Its not like I answered the front door. Also she lived next door for almost 50 years, she knows what the house looks like.

I'm having a family party at the end of September, I was thinking of inviting her (via the thank-you card)

What do you think I should have done and do you think I should invite her to the party?

Thanks
Amy

Personaly I wouldn't have invited her in - - it was that obvious you were in the middle of working on something. Maybe via the thank you card you can say something looking forward to getting to know you and when things settle down we would love to have you for a bbq.

i wouldn't worry about it too much..if you see her in passing you can invite her in..i'm sure she was just being a nice neighbor and she knew you were in the middle of working on the house.

I just gave my new nabes a plant and when I went over there I had no expectation of going inside, or even taking up much of their time. I think you handled things just right - they probably just wanted to say hi and introduce themselves.

im sure she will enjoy seeing the improvements that you will be making on the house. i would invite her in when you did some updates. i agree that she saw the house before and it wasnt rude to invite her in at that time. i would invite her a later date. i hope i have neighbors that are just as nice when i close on my house

What a nice neighbor to welcome you like that! I'm sure she just saw it as a good opportunity to 'break the ice', seeing that you were outside and all, doesn't sound like she expected anything other than an introduction. I wouldn't worry about it it sounds like you have nice neighbors - we didn't meet ours until almost a year after we moved in! Then again, we both work like crazy, so we're not home much! Good luck with all your reconstruction, and maybe invite her over for a tour once you've finished?

Re: Meeting the New Neighbors

You have nice neighbor's. Some new people moved in next door to us, and they don't seem to want anything to do with their neighbors. We have waved at the woman a few times she turns around & walks back into her house. I am not the only one this has happened to. The neighbor on the other side of us said the same thing. Plus they have dogs that they leave home all day that bark and bark and bark.
