i always say to just ask what is important to you. I know theres a list of questions to ask such as what camera do they use, but unless you know cameras well or have a preference then it won't make a difference. Like i can ask and they can answer and it would be like Oh ok i dont know the difference hahaha. Ask if e-pics are included with the package and if so do they do them in the studio or outside location. Ask about albums, ask about whether you get the pics on a high resolution disk and the rights to your pictures

Edited - didn't realize it was your first meeting?

Get a look at all their samples and pricing.
Ask if there is a discount to pay in cash or to sign a contract that day.

Ask about prices to upgrade your album, etc. after your event.

Ask if you get your digital proofs and when. If your proofs will say PROOF or something on them (this was a biggie for me).

How many proofs you can expect to get, how long the turn-around is after the wedding, how much it costs to have extra copies of photos made, if you get the digital proofs

Ask if Photojournalism is included. Sometimes it's not and definitely negotiate the number of pages in your album.

The books they'll show you will have their best photos from a wedding or weddings...ask if they can give you the password to someone's online account to see all the photos from a recent wedding (or maybe a wedding shot at your church and/or RH), that way you'll be able to see all the photos, not just the ones that make it into the books.

If they won't do it due to privacy/security issues (which is understandable), then you can ask them to show you those photos then and there on their computer, so you won't have a bride's password.

If they still won't do it for you, I would be a bit weary...they may be hiding something.

Also, I went to an event recently where the photographer sat around for most of the reception, even though people were dancing and other activities were taking place...tell this to the photographer you're meeting with and see what his/her reaction is.

Finally, for me it came down with who I felt most comfortable with in terms of personality and customer service...if you don't feel comfortable with your photographer, you may not get the best photos.

Good luck!!

I think Denise already said something about the rights to your proofs...but also ask if they are actual proofs or if they are on a reproducible disc...also I am getting a lot of loose pics so I asked if I could trade up and have them added to my album instead of loose...also ask about TY cards...I know a friend of mine went somewhere and she wasnt getting any

HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THE CREW
DO THEY DO PHOTOJOURNALISM
WHICH EACH PACKAGE INCLUDES
ASK TO SEE SAMPLE ALBUMS AND VIDEOS
ASK IF THEY EVER WORKED AT YOUR RH
ASK IF THEY GIVE YOU PROOFS IN ALBUM OR CD
