Tomorrow, I'm meeting with the rabbi that I hope will perform a religious ceremony for me and FH. We're having a 'civil' ceremony next June on a Saturday - part of a wedding weekend that we have our hearts set on - so we can't have a rabbi marry us then. My aunt suggested that we have a second, Jewish ceremony a few weeks later on a Sunday and i LOVED the idea (2 celebrations? 2 dresses? All right! ). Plus, her rabbi is really, really cool - I saw her do both my cousins' bar mitzvahs and she was very modern, funny, and interesting.
So, to any brides out there who were married by a rabbi: What goes on when you meet with him/her? What kinds of things is she going to ask us? What should we ask her? Thanks.
She'll definitely want to get to know you and your fh as both a couple and as individuals. The basic questions - what do you both do, how did you meet, how long have you been together - will most likely come up. My Rabbi is marrying us, and though I've known him forever (he batmitzvahed me), he wanted to get to know my FH, and see us interacting. He also went over the different parts of the ceremony, and explained the meaning/significance of certain rituals.
The questions I asked him....
Do my shoulders need to be covered? Fee? Do all the groomsmen (even the non-Jewish ones) need to wear kippahs? Ketubah witnesses - this is a big one because every Rabbi has different requirements.
Lots of luck tomorrow - I'm sure your meeting will go great!

Re: Meeting with a rabbi tomorrow
i hate to burst your bubble, but it's illegal for a clergy person to perform the religious ceremony w/out also signing the civil document the same day.
