meeting with priest

FH and I are going to meet with the priest at my catholic church today to get our date booked. What should I expect him to ask us? We're not church-goers; is he going to ask that????

Ours asked us questions about our parents, and us. What religion we practice, where we received the sacraments (baptism, communion, confirmation), where we were born, current addresses, current parish. We had to go through a thing about not hiding things from each other (like mental diseases or crimes I think? I don't really remember) and say that we both freely wanted to get married.

He also went over all the details about what we need to do to get married there, what we need to get, and pre-cana.....it wasn't bad, don't be nervous!

So I guess I have to come clean about the time I served for that bank robbery then?

They have a series of ridiculous questions that they are required to ask.. Here are two examples that I will never forget being asked... I guess it's easy to see why

Are you engaging in marriage under your own free will.

As far as you know, are you related.

They also ask you questions about children, whether or not you are a practicing catholic, and basically why you are getting married.

It's not bad at all - don't be nervous!

Yea, it was pretty easy and kind of repetative.

We actually had our 2nd meeting last night and went over everything again! Plus some other new stuff. Then on the way out, he said he may call us in March-May to have another meeting. And we def need to meet before the wedding and have our private dress rehearsal with him.

Each parish is different. They do have basic questions but the priest can always ask more. Some parishes do ask if you or your family is a member of the parish. There are times where these parishes do not allow non-parishoners to be married in their church.

thanks for all your advice!! I actually just back and of course, I was nervous for nothing as usual, lol.

We have to go back to do the commitments in the fall of this year, as the book is still not in (we're early 2010 so they're putting us in the 2009 book)
and book pre-cana for the following fall.
