what is a day of coordinator?
Someone who runs the show -- works with banquet manager, florist, deliveries, setup. Makes sure everyone is where they need to be and doing what they should be doing so that you the bride doesn't have to worry about it. They arrive first thing in the morning, and typically don't leave until after you leave at night. But they are sometimes negotiable if you are on a budget, and will be there to coordinate the important things like setup, photos, keeping to the timeline, etc.
Are they very expensive?
They can be. I got quoted between $300 and $1500. I'm meeting with the $300. I just want someone to make everything go smoothly without me, family or bridal party getting involved.

Who are you meeting with?
I'm using a day of coordinator and also using her for additional wedding consultation. You want to ask how many weddings she's worked on, when you'll be meeting prior to the wedding to go over details, what time she'll be arriving to help that day, what specific duties she's going to perform (like making charts to show florist how placecards are to be set up, etc., giving members of the BP a list of when they're walking and the timeline for events, etc.). For your end, you should provide your coordinator with copies of each vendor contract so she knows what they have (and haven't) agreed to do. Is Elaine DeLuca your coordinator or planner? Who is the person you are using as your coordinator? Can you reccomend her?

I'm using Elaine as my day of coordinator but I've also scheduled some 'consultation' hours with her--basically, this is all the other stuff I need help with but I didn't need quite enough help to warrant having a full-time planner. She's been so fantastic! I highly recommend her. She even came dress shopping with me on my first trip 'just because'--I wasn't even paying her.
