I thought he was nice. Of course any venue is going to try to convince you to book with them since it means $$$$ for them, but DH & I didn't feel he was too pushy. It's been a long time since we booked our wedding, but from what I remember he didn't have to do too much to convince us anyway since we fell in love with the Westbury Manor as soon as we saw it. But I do remember him explaining to us what we would get for free (wine on the tables, chair covers, etc.) and he offered us a very fair price compared to the other RH's we visited, so we couldn't resist booking with him that day.
Just ignore RH's that seem to pushy, and you never know, they might throw in more things for free to convince you to book with them.

I didn't even finish reading your post. I saw the name and have to reply- cursing is banned from the board so I'm having a hard time here.

He turned us off cOMPLETELY. I've been to 2 weddings at WM and loved it but he made me vomit a bit in my mouth. Rude, pushy and assumes you're uneducated and live under a rock.

Sorry, I just have no paitence for that. I'm not a kid, this is a business transaction. You're not doing me any favors.

Rant over.

we booked w/ Mel. In the beginning he was definitely a little pushy. Not overly so, but it was like, OK, this is the firsr place we're seeing, give us some time! but he was right, he said we'd be back, and we were. when we met with him to book, the pushiness was gone. he was very nice, gave us some extras. but where it got weird, was that after signing the contract, he spent about 20 minutes talking to use like he was our parent or priest - telling us how wonderful marriage is, not to rush into it, it takes work to make a marriage work. after 10 min we were like, OK nice old man, we gotta go. he's a sweet man, but can definitely be overbearing when you first meet with him.

I do find him to be way too pushy, but WM is the only Venue clost to Queens that is giving us a minimun of 50 for a Saturday night wedding.

After you booked the contract, do you have to keep dealing with him?

Re: Mel from Westbury Manor

I have worked with Mel in the past- he was at the Fox Hollow about 9 years ago for my Sweet16 and my advice to you is to take Mel for what he is. He is older, been in the business for decades (which means he is good at what he does) plus he comes from an older school...

After 9 years, I saw him and he greeted me the same way he did when I booked at the Fox with him (even though I booked with someone else at WM).
As for my Sweet 16- people still say it was one of the best parties they have been to. Mel really came through-

All I have to say is take him with a grain of salt- is he pushy? Maybe but, I'm sure it's become a little redundant to him and I have been to a lot of RH's and WM speaks for itself (and there are a lot of nice places out there) I just feel like Mel may come off as pushy bc his loyalty is to WM.

If you really feel like you and Mel don't click then I would recommend speaking to someone else at WM because not all people can communicate well with one another- I would recommend Felicia or Natasha there. My experience with the WM has been top notch. I can not complain- very professional, clean, caring and thorough. I have complete confidence in them.

In the end, Mel means well and he is a very kind person. You can either appreciate him for it or not... it's all relative. One thing is for sure, Mel is a nice guy.

We had the same experience.

So did I.
As soon as I started to ask questions his attitude changed. And trust me they were BASIC questions nothing to lose your patience over!
Yes, he is an older man but that doesn't give him the right to be rude.

I booked with Mel and yes hes a bit pushy, but thats his job. Hes trying to sell you on trusting them to have the most important day of your life there. And sometimes people just arent your cup of tea, but I did not find him rude or condescending AT ALL. IN FACT I got quite the opposite, no matter how many questions I or my fiance asked, he answered and went into details about what to expect on our day...
The only thing I was upset about and doesnt make any logical sense to me is, that on Sat nights they dont have ceremonies there. In case the weather doesnt permit it outside, he said something about its too many people to have inside with the restaurant going on. BUT what doesnt make logical sense to me is my cocktail hour is at 630 so IF GOD FORBID AND I MEAN GOD FORBID (IT JUST CANT HAPPEN) weather doesnt permit cocktail hour outside, theres still going to be a whole wedding going on inside while the restaurant is open =/ So whats the difference if its 530 or 630 AND not everyone is going to show up to the ceremony so that upset me and didnt make any sense to me. And what about at 730 when my wedding starts, everyone will be there and the restaurant is still open no? So why isnt that a problem? So that made no sense to me and I BEGGED him =/
BUT other than thats WM's reputation speaks for itself. The grounds are gorgeous, the service is top notch and just cant be beat and the food is absolutely delicious! The room is gorgeous, so what more could you ask for on your big day ya know? =)))
If you didnt like him then yes I would def ask to speak with someone else because the place is beautiful...
And just curious for anyone else who got married or is getting married at WM, did anyone have a ceremony there on a Sat night? Did you hear the same thing like I did?
THANX

We wanted to have our ceremony there too, but he told us the same. Only Fridays and they can't do a Saturday night. So, we're now trying to either get married at a church hear us or maybe one ne WM. However, I don't know many churches or Chapels by the area.
