MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

Wedding is in 7 days!!!!! I finally cracked! Cried like a baby at my fitting today because I do not like the way the bustle looks. I do not like bumpy big bustles...I wanted something flat. The seamstress told me last week that there was only one way to bustle my type of dress and it would be flat. The bustle is actually beautiful but it causes the sides of the dress to fold and crinkle haphazardly. The lady was disgusted with me and wanted me to decide to either keep the bustle or cut off the train.

Now I originally had planned on cutting off the train because it wasn't long anyway. They would keep a small 'ballerina sweep' in the back.

What are your personal opinions on not having a train????

Could use lots o' opinions on this one (i need to let them know by Monday)

Thanks a lot all

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

My heart goes out to you. I'm sure this was the last thing you needed... What did the seamstress say when it wasn't flat like she originally told you it would be? I personally like the idea of a train, it's more dramatic for the entrance... but once the ceremony is over, that bad boy is being put up...

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I CUT OFF MY TRAIN!!! and loved it!! Although it was a tough decision to make...it was so permamant....

I am not so tradtional to begin with and I did not get married in a Church...I origianlly was looking for a dress without a train anyway...so I hacked it off and am so happy that I did...

I'll just post some pictures of the dress to give you an idea...I hope it gives you some kind of idea...

Here is our entrance...

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I really feel that you should keep the train, I feel it gives the dress an extra something. That of course is just my opinion, I knew when I was trying on dresses that I wanted a train especially so I could have it bustled. What type of bustle are you having, is it a french bustle? I think those are very pretty. Again, it's ultimately your decision.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I too am getting my train cut off. I really didn't want a train to begin with, but the dress I found that I love has a chapel train. I do think the trains look beautiful for the entrance, but for the rest of the service and reception it just seems it can be more of a hastle. I have heard so many people complain that the bustle doesn't hold, or the dress still drags a little and people step on it, etc.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I really feel for you. I am getting married in a week and I know there is enough stress to deal with. Personally I might cut it off or could they make it shorter this way there isnt as big a bustle? Try to hang in there. I know how upsetting it is. Last night I found out that three singers in my band are different now. I am devastated!!

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I would cut off my train in a second if I could, but there is embroidery on it so I can't. Cut it off! You will have more freedom, you won't be freaked about the bustle, and that was your original gut instinct anyway!!

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

Adrienne - could they bustle it under? I don't like bustles that are pulled up to my backside, so I asked a few places and was told that some dresses can be bustled under. This is what I plan to do.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I was going to cut off my small train too.

When I had my first fitting the seamstress showed me a kind of bustle that gathers at the KNEE area. I'm not sure what the name for it is but it keeps the fabric low, so it's not at your butt or making the hip area of the dress poofed.
See if this is a possibility for you. It looks so nice.
Hope it works out for you.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

Im thinking of cutting off my train too. I hear so many stories about brides having trouble with their trains that drive them nuts all night long - maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

If you want to keep your train - maybe you can ask to speak to another seamstress at the shop? Not sure if it can be done with your dress but there are a few varieties of bustles that lie flat.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I had a cathedral length train and my seamstress did an under bustle. It looked like a ball gown when bustled. This is a very difficult bustle to do with a long train but it can be done by a skilled seamstress. I had no problems with it, once it was bustled it stayed up.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

Have you thought about a French bustle? That is where they gather it and bustle it under rather than sweeping it up ....that's what I'm going with

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

The seamstress should NOT have been rude to you. This is your wedding, you are paying her to make your dress perfect.
Try a french bustle. I have a detachable train so this is not an issue for me, but I love a dress with a train IMO. But YOU have to be comfortable and feel beautiful in your dress.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

If they told you that they could do it the way you wanted it before your last fitting, then they should honor it. It sounds like they are being lazy. Did you speak to the manager? I know you dont need the added aggravation right now, but I would raise He**!!

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

DID YOU SEE IF THEY CAN MAKE YOUR TRAIN DETACHABLE? MY SIL HAD A CATHEDRAL TRAIN THAT SHE KEPT ON FOR PICS, CEREMONY AND FIRST DANCE THEN THEY TOOK IT OFF AND SHE DANCED IN PEACE ALL NIGHT. SHE ALSO HAD A BIT OF A BALLERINA SWEEP ON THE BOTTOM WHICH SHE SLIPPED ON ONCE WHILE DANCING.SORRY YOU HAD TO DEAL WITH THEM BEING RUDE. GOOD LUCK

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

Here's an idea my bridal salon gave me (and others). If you cut the train off, have a cathedral length veil for the church which looks like a long beautiful train going down the isle. Then remove it to leave a short (or NO) veil for the reception. We tried it with various gowns, and it really is a beautiful look and definitely looks like a train.

Re: MELTDOWN at my final fitting!!!!!!!! (long)

I fell in love with a dress that has a Cathedral train and I am very seriously considering cutting the train off and making a some sort of a veil out of it...
When I tried on the dress and wanted to see how it would looked bustled, my butt was like 50 sizes bigger (and I am 5 feet tall).... The head seamstress at Davids didn't want to cut the train off so I think I'll take it elsewhere for the big job.
