Memorial....

Memorial....

How are you gals remembering people who passed? My mom will only be gone 9 months when I get married, and I'd like there to be something special there for her, but I don't know what. Any ideas?

Re: Memorial....

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my father in April 2007 so I understand completely. We included my father's name on our invites despite what etiquette says. I wrapped my bo-k in his hankie and had a bo-k charm of his photo that said 'Walk Me Down The Aisle Dad, 2/29/08'.
We had a moment of silence in his memory during the ceremony and with that, dedicated our ceremony/wedding vows to him. Our DJ (yay for Vinny from High Voltage!) suggested I dance to a song with my husband in his memory. I danced to 'My Wish' by Rascal Flatts and had my family cut in. It was terribly hard but it was beautiful. I'm so glad Vinny suggested it. We also made a donation to the American Diabetes Association in his memory. I added a lot of things to make sure he was there in spirit and remembered but I kept it at a level that it wasn't depressing.

All I can really say is this: do what you're comfortable with and what you want to do. You can't let anyone else dictate something so personal.

That sounds like it was a beautiful way to remember your dad. The dance sounds beautiful. It's weird. I was going to have them both walk me down the aisle, and I wanted a dance with mom too. But I wonder who will step in for her on a dance like that?

I was going to have both walk me down as well. I would have danced with my mom but she was uncomfortable with it. Do what is best for you and how you want to remember your mom. No one else can dictate this for you. Good luck and lots of

I'm so sorry about your mother. Mrsmultari I was wondering how all of that went on your wedding day.

My dad passed in October 2006 and I'm still trying to figure out all the ways to memorialize him. I'm definitely having a candle lit during the ceremony for him and our grandparents that aren't there. I also like the idea of a moment of silence. I also plan on having a bo-k charm with his picture. I'm also having the memorial candle brought into the reception and placed on a table next to a vase of flowers for each person that isn't there and a picture of me and my dad. As of right now I'm not sure about the dance, but I think my mom is getting more comfortable with dancing with me. So we are leaning more towards that. If you still want to dance, do you have a sister or an aunt (moms sister) that you are close with that you can dance with?

I think that's about all I can handle b/c the day will be hard enough. I have been thinking about dedicating a song for my dad, but i think dancing with my mom might be enough. good luck with whatever you do. do what you feel comfortable with.

My mom was gone for 3 years when I got married.
We lit a memorial candle at the start of our ceremony. I had a beautiful ornament frame on my bo-k with her picture in it, and I wore her wedding band on my right hand, as I do everyday.
I also carried one of her hankies.

For the reception, I asked the memorial candle be placed on the sweetheart table and kept lit. My bo-k was right next to it.

I also had the florist create a special bo-k for me to place on her grave the day after the wedding. It contained the same flowers that were in my bo-k and my sis's.

I didn't make the memorial such a big deal, because my grief is private, and because this was a happy occassion.

Keep in mind that your Dad is also grieving, and if something will make him uncomfortable, then please don't do it.
If you dad is ok with it, you can lay a rose on what would have been her seat at the wedding.
Did your parent's have a special song that you can dance with your father and dedicate the song to your mom ? What about their wedding song ?

My mom and dad were divorced. I'm not sure what their wedding song was. I like the idea of that though, becuase without them, there would be no me... :)

I am very sorry for your loss.... My father passed about 16 years ago and my grandmother about 3 years ago and I was very close to both. I was planning on doing a bo-k charm with their pictures and also dancing with my uncle in memory of them to 'There you''ll be' by Faith Hill. I think the words to the song say it all. I never saw the memory candles before those are such a nice idea! Thank you all for putting so much stuff up! I hope this helps a little

My father passed away April of last year and we were married in October. I had his picture in a frame in my bouquet. We had a moment of silence for him & DH's father and brother at the ceremony. As part of our favor, we made a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of both our fathers. And DH & I danced to 'I Loved Her First' as well as asking all of our guests to join us on the dance floor for 'That's Amore' in honor of our Dads.

I am so sorry for your loss!!

Exposures

I ordered mine from here. Do a search for ornament frames. These are usually larger than regular bo-k charms.
I don't have a close up, but you can sort of see the size of the frame, it is below center of my bo-k

We are going to put pictures in different frames for our grandparents who have passed, my aunt and FH father. We are going to put it on the place card table or next to the place card table. We are also going to mention them in our programs.

I just have to send you all a big on your strength. Its very admirable - I couldn't imagine not having a parent there on my wedding day, but the way that you are all finding ways of remembering them on your special days leaves me to believe that they will all be there in spirit and everyones hearts ~ Good for you all ladies!!!
