FH and I decided we wanted to incorporate the memorial candle into our ceremony. we are also doing the unity candle. does the memorial candle work the sme way as the unity candle? do we each light it together with 2 tapers or does soemone else light it? I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions for what to do. if anyone has a prayer that goes with it i'd be intrested in that too. Thanks.

Re: Memorial Candle- questions
Usually a memorial candle is lit at the beginning of the ceremony and the officiant says something to bless all that are with us in spirit today. If you mean a memorial candle that you have your RH set up with pple's pictures, that is usually lit before you come in to the RH and on a separate table. Ours was on a piano across from our placecard table with our dads' pictures. HTH

Re: Memorial Candle- questions
my FIL had issues with lighting a memorial candle or having an in memorium in the ceremony program because it would be considered inauspicious so i just had one pre-lit for my grandma. it was placed on our dias during the reception - it was low key and we were still able to have it at the wedding for us

Re: Memorial Candle- questions
I would like to do something like this because FH's father and my cousin passed away a few years ago.... those of you that had a candle in your RH near your placecards how did they set it up? Was there something on the table that specific in memory of.... or was it just decretely done?
Also how would this be done in the church?

Typo error meant to say 'specified'

Re: Memorial Candle- questions
We're doing both. I lost my Dad and brother so what we're going to do is have my brother's sons (he had triplets) involved in the procession entering the church - one carrying the unlit memorial candle, one carrying the unity candle and one the ring bearer. They will hand the candles over to the altar servers (another niece and nephew) and they'll light the candle before the ceremony - we'll have the deacon mention something about those here in spirit. We'll then do the unity candle where his parents and my Mom light it as part of the ceremony.

Re: Memorial Candle- questions
Friends of mine had the memorial candle in front of the Blessed Mother statue in church. At one point, after communion I think, they went over and lit the candle together (two hands on one taper). The program mentioned what they were doing. It was a really nice moment.
