Memorial Candles - Check - with Pics!

Memorial Candles - Check - with Pics!

So, since DH has a few friends and we both have grandparents that have passed away I wanted to honor them at our party. I read about memorial candles and found a set on Etsy that I loved but they were $45. I mentally priced out the materials (some votives, a candleholder, a glue gun that I already own and a few sheets of vellum) and decided I could do it for way cheaper. So, I did.

I went to Michaels over the weekend and bought all the materials. I ran into some problems - ie it is not really that straightforward to put vellum onto a votive as they curve. I searched the internet and found a template that can be used on votives. I had to modify it by increasing the size on the photocopier but eventually I got a perfect template.

Another problem I ran into is that I bought a cylinder vase for the main candle that was too big to put a piece of vellum around. I searched for a legal sized piece of vellum but I couldnt find anything. I wound up going to the flower district in NYC and buying a 3 inch vase that worked perfectly.

Okay, so here are the pics of my candles. Please let me know if you are diying and have any questions.

I spent $1.00 on four sheets of vellum. I already had a cheapie little glue gun. I bought two packs of crystals for $3.50 each. The cylinder was $4.00. The ribbon was 2 spools for $5.00. The votives were $6.00 for a pack of 12.

So, grand total is $23.00 but I also have tons of supplies left over that I will use on something else.

My inspiration candles were $45.00 plus shipping.

Thank you! I did them at work. The only hard part was when someone would walk over by my desk and I would attempt to hide my glue gun. I do a lot of stuff at work and I always think I can pass it off as actual work but there is NO WAY I am doing anything involving a hot glue gun for work, lol!
