Memorial ideas

Memorial ideas

My mom passed away 5 years ago and I'm trying to think of how to honor her at our wedding. I'm going to get a mini picture to attach to my bouquet but I want to do something in addition to that. I wanted to maybe play a song during the reception but wasn't sure how to incoporate it. Any ideas on how to make that work? Or any other memorial ideas are welcomed as well!! TIA!!

Not sure about the song. However I have seen people leave a seat empty during the ceremony with flowers or something on it.

Lots of people do a memorial candle. There are nice poems to put on them.

Also, if you are doing a program you can write a little something

I'm trying to figure something out for losing my brother as well. All I've thought about doing is having a candle & picture for him at the entrance table. I'm not sure if I will have a song played or not. I like the idea of flowers at a chair 'where they would sit'

I'm so sorry for your loss. I honored my Dad at my wedding with a bouquet charm photo and his name was mentioned at the ceremony and on the program. Other ideas people gave me were leaving a small bouquet on the pew, and dedicating a song.

The most beautiful favor a donation in the honor of the person to the appropriate foundation. You can have a scroll or card made up to be placed on the plates of every guest that states something to this effect:

With much thought and consideration,
we have chosen a special way to say
Thank You for sharing our wedding day.
In lieu of traditional favors
we have made a donation in
in your honor to the
Name of Charity
in lovng memory of
Name of Person
Relationship to Bride and Groom
We feel the finest gift is one which
helps and gives to others.

All our love,
Name of Bride and Groom
Wedding Date

Maybe the song you dance with your dad to, you can dedicate it to your mom (of course ask your dad first). Or maybe play your parents wedding song and have you and DH dance to it. If you don't want people to get down about it, maybe you can just dance to it and no one has to know why.

They also make those memorial vases that you can maybe get to put on your table as your centerpiece, or a memorial candle.

I'm sorry about your mom, I'm sure it's really hard right now but it's nice that you are going to honor her in some way. Try and think of something she likes and think if she would want it something special between the 2 of you or with everyone.

My mom is a cancer survivor and I couldn't imagine planning my wedding (even though she drove me nuts) without her there. I wanted to honor her someway and I took the lace of her veil and had my own garter made from that, can you do something like that?

Re: Memorial ideas

I am doing a donation to honor my grandmother who passed. My friend's mother passed a week to the day before her wedding and they left a seat for her at church, the MOH mentioned her briefly in the toast, and they did a donation in her memory. (The donation was already happening because she died of breast cancer and they originally planned to donate to that before she passed.)

If you have a program done, make sure to put her name somehere saying...

for those we have lost who are here in spirit...__name___

something to that affect..

Firstly I am so sorry for your loss. I have lost both my parents and want to do something to honor them as well.

Here are some ideas i've seen or read about:

- Dance a song dedicated to her with your father or other special family member.
- I'm planning on using blue and yellow as my colors as yellow was my dad's fave color and blue my moms.
- Include a special dedication to them in your program.
- Have a beautiful flower arrangement at the entrance in your moms fave color, with a special poem or dedication note to her.

Re: Memorial ideas

Thank you SO SO much everyone for your kind thoughts and your wonderful suggestions!!! I'm sorry to those of you who are in the same boat as me with planning, or having already planned, a wedding without a loved one.

I am definitely planning to include my mom in my program and was also planning to get a bouquet charm with her picture. I was also planning to split our favor donation between the American Heart Association (my mom died from a heart attack) and a diabetes foundation (DH grandparents both have diabetes). I also found that memorial vase mentioned earlier and I think I might put that on maybe mine and DH table at the reception with fresh flowers.

I originally wanted to play 'Mama's Song' by Carrie Underwood but wasn't sure who to dance with - I have 4 brothers and couldn't choose between them. I think that song might be too emotional so I'm thinking maybe of leaving it out.

Do you think what I have so far is good?
Thanks everyone so much again!!

I think what you have is perfect!! I'm not going to be doing a song just because I don't want to get too overly emotional. Just the little touches make it extra special!
