I was just looking over my program for the ceremony and realized that we really arent saying too much about my father who passed away. The officiant said that this is supposed to be a happy occasion and not to spend too much time talking about those who have passed. After reading some of the posts I realized that I want to do a memory candle at the ceremony. where do you get a memory candle? What would you say with it? I also have to tell the officiant that I want to do something like this. After the ceremony do you bring the candle in?? Where do you put it?
Thanks so much ladies!

Re: Memory Candle
i was thinking about doing a candle at my ceremony also
and then a case with my mother's favorite flower in it..just one..and my family will know what that means
here are some sayings i found for candle
not sure if i like the first line--
Although death has separated us physically from those who have gone before us, faith and love have bound us eternally. Though we cannot see you, we know you are here. Though we cannot touch you, we feel the warmth of your smile, as we begin a new chapter in our lives. Today we pause to reflect upon those who have shaped our character, molded our spirits and touched our hearts. May the lighting of this candle be a reminder of the memories we have shared, a representation of the everlasting impact you have made upon our lives.

In Loving Memory
Those we love don’t go away They walk beside us everyday Unseen, unheard, but always there Still missed, still loved and very dear.

Re: Memory Candle
Although we can't see you we know you are here Smiling down, watching over us As we say 'I Do' Forever in our hearts, Forever in our lives, And so we say our vows In loving memory of you.

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.

Re: Memory Candle
My officiant doesn't want to pinpoint one particular person, since this is suppose to be a happy occasion. I am doing a memorial candle, got it from Target, with a general saying on it. My father also passed as well as other relatives, we are just doing a loving memory of those gone.

Re: Memory Candle
What kind of candle at target? Does it say a memory candle? Thank you for all the beautiful sayings. My officiant feels the same way as yours that he doesnt want to pinpoint anyone at the cermony but I feel like I should since he was my father. I guess at our sweetheart table we could put the candle I dont really know where else. Should I put the poem and the picture in two seperate frames at our table. I want to remember him but I dont want it to freak people out, especially my mom. Would it look weird at the sweetheart table??? We dont really have a dias. Its just all tables.
Thanks for all the help ladies. Its a hard thing to figure in.

Re: Memory Candle
I wrote a saying on the program dedicating the cermony to FH father. I am also doing a memory table. I am making escort cards for the family members passed with a lit tealight for each person as if it is a placeholder for them. I framed a poem. For FH father I am putting a picture of him next to his candle.

Re: Memory Candle
I was able to make my own thanks to a fellow LIWEDDING bride.

My offiiciant began our ceremony with a very short memory prayer ('We light this candle in honor of our loved ones. Although they are not with us in person, we know that they are with us in spirit, blessing this sacred occasion.') and lit a small candle (I bought a simple white votive at Michaels because I ran out of time to make one!!) while she said it. The candle stayed lit for the entire ceremony and then the LE staff put it on the piano inside afterwards in front of pictures of my and FH's dads' pictures. We also had our florist make an arrangement to put by the photos. It looked really elegant and worked out well...talk to your BM about having a memorial table and where it would be placed during the reception and CH.

Re: Memory Candle
We are going to put a pic of us in between our parents wedding pics on our placecard table. Also..the officiant is going to say something in remembrance... you don't want to make it too sad,...but at the same time......you are only here because of them!

Re: Memory Candle
i am lighting a memory candle, which i'm just putting a plain candle in something (to hopefully stay lit!) i think my officiant is just going to say this candle is lit in memory of: and name my father and mine and fh's grandparents. then i'm having the candle moved into the reception next to a vase of flowers for each person not with us, a picture of me and my dad and a poem in memory of him. not TOO much, but just enough to remember him and know he is there with us.
