Men's Wearhouse Horror Story

Men's Wearhouse Horror Story

My advise to all of you who jumped on the great deal at the men's wearhouse... You get what you pay for, and it isn't more true than with this place. Let me tell you what happened to us:

We went to them in April to rent our tuxes for June. Plenty of time right? There shouldn't be any screw-ups right? Well, here's what happened:

-two of our guys had to go to 2 different stores, two different times to be refitted due to incompetent employees out at the lake grove location
-my dad went for a first fitting, and was told 'we already have your measurements in our system'. he did finally get fitted, but the receipt they printed for him had another groomsman's measurements and information! He was told 'don't worry, only the names are mixed up, not the measurements' That was all before the week of the wedding.

Keeping in mind Sunday was the wedding:

-the Thursday before the wedding, my brother picked up his tux and it didn't fit. Men's Wearhouse does not stock the rented tuxedos, they are shipped in from Texas. So he was told to 'call around' on LI and find out if any of the stores have his size in an in-stock tuxedo. They made HIM do the leg work.

He called a couple of stores, and no luck. Only then did he tell me what was going on. I called the Oceanside store to tell them about all this hassle and inconvenience. My brother had to go there, from Manhattan to get the right size tux. Fine, that was taken care of.

-My hubby went to the Oceanside store on Saturday to pick up his 3 groomsmen tuxes and his own. By the time his groomsmen all got together to try on the tuxes, it was early evening on Saturday. All of them were wrong but his, including the wrong shoes. They went to the closest Men's Wearhouse in
Huntington-which told them they couldn't do anything. They wound up going to another tux store (not a men's wearhouse) nearby. The store was closed, but the woman opened it up just so they could at least have the right size shoes. Of course they had to pay this woman out of pocket for the shoes.

So, after placing an order in April, not only did most of the bridal party have to be inconvienced to get their tux, but 3 of them wound up not having the correct tux anyway.

We wound up being guinea pigs for this company and their new service of offering rental tuxedos. Luckily, I didn't know anything about the groomsmen's misfitted tuxes until after the wedding.(they all hid it from me well). My advice: go with a company that has a good rep and pay the few extra dollars. I tried to save my bridal party money.bad idea. I am contacting the Men's Wearhouse and telling them about my experience and asking for a full refund for all the tuxes that were screwed up. There is NO reason why after placing an order that soon before a wedding, that there should be a problem.

They try to convince that even if there is a problem, they will rectify it before the actual wedding day. That didn't happen.

Please see my next message on all the other vendors that provided me with exceptional service on my wedding day! :) JOY

OMG! What a horrible story. I will be putting in a call tomorrow to MW. Now I am very nervous. I am too trying to save my GM $$ but not if there will be any of these problems. Thanks for the warning.

So sorry to hear about your experience!! It was very smart of the men not to tell you until after the wedding, Im sure you would have been freaking out. Good luck with getting the refund, it certainly sounds like you deserve it.
We just started looking for our tuxes...guess we wont be going there!!

Thank you so much for this post! I had totally considered going there -- my brother-in-law had just gone there and bought a whole bunch of new suits and raved about their prices and selection. You saved me from a major headache!

So I guess, in their defense, they're good at selloing not renting!!

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you. My husband and his groomsmen ( 11 ) went to the Lake Grove loc. and delt with a young lady and were all taken care of properly. There was one small problem... the best man's pants were a little too long and were fixed right away. Whether or not I was lucky or you were unlucky I would still recommend that store for rentals.

MS314- What are the other details of your wedding? Your profile says that have only posted once on this board and yet your wedding was in May. I was curious about which other vendors you used? Did you like the Swan Club?
